I was just wondering if the K1 process is generally quicker for Canadians versus beneficiaries from other countries?

Hi larrysgirl,

Totally ignore shonjaved's post, she just likes to be ignorant.

To answer you question honestly, no, unfortunatley being Canadian does not give any fringe benefit in this process. It is a tad bit easier being from a country where immigration fraud is fairly rare and generally the process takes 6 months or less. The big thing is which service center you file with. Last year, vermont was extremely quick, not sure whats up these days. Montreal is slower than Vancouver in general to schedule interviews by about 30 days. As long as your case is uncomplicated, the process is pretty straight forward and getting the K1 visa is no problem.

My personal feelings on this subject is that it should be easier for the born Canadian citizens, and hell, being from the Maritimes, if Quebec separated, the joke is we would be the 51st state anyway!:lol::lol:

IT is the service centre that is cenerally the telling factor in the speed of the K-1. Ours took 9 months from start to finish of which the last 2 months was the process through the Consulate. The rest was the Texas Service Centre and NVC. We were beginning to suspect that being Canadian slowed it down instead of sped it up!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Not sure about speed but the interviews seem to be a lot easier. One doesnt read of too many denials or people going on further review that often from Mtl or Vancouver, can't say that in some countries. Plus you get to wait with the comforts of Tim Hortons, what else can ya ask for!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

You can watch my case, which hasn't moved an inch. My husband is Canadian, born in the Portuguese Azores Islands. Our Embassy is Montreal. We're caught in the IMBRA affair, which will probably be the biggest factor in our wait time.

Due to IMBRA the beginning part seems to be the longest part especially if you are going through California. California was slow to begin with.

Vancouver is quicker than Montreal in getting interviews scheduled as the timelines have shown in the past.

Sorry, must have been the way I interpreted and let's face it, Shon does have a history. Didn't realize the citizens of Suriname were exempt from the process, I must have missed that thread. :P:lol:

I think it all depends on your destination.. places that have higher volumes of applications may take a while.. but the K1 is usually pretty quick.
