We even went to houston embassy and they are idiots too!! how can we get this paper signed it is Suez canal university in egypt....the other thing i need to ask is how long my husband should study for toefl test before taking it?? We need to get him admitted to college before august so he can start ..i just wish that we didnt have to deal with a stone age country liek egypt ...i will do whatever it takes to get that paper i just dont know how

My husband will be attending the University of Arizona 2009-2010 and perhaps I can shed some light on the process of transcripts and the TOEFL.

When Wael first contacted the UofA, they also told him that he would have to contact his University, Alexandria University to have them send his transcripts in a sealed official envelope.

He told them his transcrips were official and that his university would not do such a thing as sending them in a sealed envelope. The UofA was understanding and accepted his official transcripts.

The UofA policy is to evaluate any transcript themselves through their evaluation office and will not accept any outside evaluations even if it was from an authorized institution which was good as it saved us some money.

As far as the TOEFL is concerned, the UofA has an institutional TOEFL testing center and that's where Wael took his exam. He didn't do any studying. He just called, paid the fees and took his test.

If your husband is good in reading, writing, listening and understanding english, he probably won't need to do any studying. There are sites on the net that will give you somewhat of a practice testing.

Just google TOEFL practice testing.

How long should he study will depend on his level of proficiency in english.

Best of luck!!

Can he have a friend go to the university and get it for him?

I know AbuS got his "official" transcripts before he came over - apparently in order to be "official," you need to pay $$$$ (er LELELE) for stamps that they stick haphazardly all over. Try sending a friend over with some money and the paper and inshaAllah they'll give it to him.

Note for everyone who's husbands/fiances have not yet arrive: Bring along official transcripts, as well as transcripts in envelopes with the signature across the flap. Also, if possible, get letters of recommendation from professors. And bring along course descriptions. Alhamdulilah AbuS did an english language program, so they had all the course descriptions in english. If it's in arabic, get it translated.

If you have choices of where you can get the transcripts evaluated from, ECE takes the egyptian transcripts with the stamps and doesn't require anything in a sealed envelope. Or at least that's how it was in 2005.

10/14/05 - married AbuS in the US lovehusband.gif

02/23/08 - Filed for removal of conditions.

Sometime in 2008 - Received 10 year GC. Almost done with USCIS for life inshaAllah! Huzzah!

12/07/08 - Adopted the fuzzy feline love of my life, my Squeaky baby th_catcrazy.gif

02/23/09 - Apply for citizenship

06/15/09 - Citizenship interview

07/15/09 - Citizenship ceremony. Alhamdulilah, the US now has another american muslim!

This is a very important point, however Wael found out it is at the discretion of the professor who teaches that particular class if they will allow that class as a credit or have them take it over. Some will and some won't. Wael had his transcripts translated and officially stamped before we left Egypt. We sure were happy they accepted them! Saved alot of frustration.

It took forever to get Hachemi's university in Algeria to send the transcripts to WES. His mom went several times over a 6 month period to the University with no luck. I think the man was wanting a bribe. I know my father in law contacted a good friend of his that was a superior to the man that would not sign the papers and get the transcript back to WES. That man lost his position because of this and it was soon after WES received the documents. Hachemi did not have to take the TOEFL. You need to ask the University or college that you spouse will attend, because we had Hachemi's official transcripts and they would not accept them from us, only WES. The college my husband attends said if he could not get the documents, his only other option was to take the GED to get admitted. Good luck.

Wanted to thank you for bringing up the topic and for the responses. My husband and I are trying to figure out the whole evaluation thing. He has a 2-year "diploma" in "Associate Nursing". Still scrabbling all over the place on seeing who/what can evaluate his degree. Fortunately his transcript are in English translation. He told me he would have the same issue of his college being difficult about mailing off "official transcripts" and getting much needed signatures. Even while he was still in Jordan.

Hopefully we'll be able to come across some place that is just as understanding as UofA is.

I hope things work itself out for you, ak3.
