:lol: there's nothing logical about it though - your argument thus far has consistently relied on your expressed personal disdain for criminals, using that as the reason for why compensating someone for suffering appalling injuries while in the care/responsibility of the prison service is a bad idea.

I don't think anyone will look at a person who has a criminal record yet is now crippled and blind and reach the conclusion that "crime pays".

The simple practical fact of the matter is that that the man is likely to be on public support/benefit for the rest of his life anyway - both for healthcare for the diabetes and for day to day living. You and I pay anyway.
