Ok, so I am 25 and according to CDC I'd have to take the HPV vaccine.

When I called a few doctors here in Brazil they said I'm not obligated to do it, they recommend but said "if you can't afford it now, you don't have to". Which is pretty tempting, since I'm spending soooo soooo much with this whole process. and that vaccine costs about $200 here.

Do you think I'd have any problems getting my visa or problems at POE if I don't have that vaccine?

Thanks for all the support. :)

Problem getting Visa, Maybe, but if the consulate appointed doctor at the visa medical signs off on the vaccinations, you should have no problem getting visa.

As long as you have a visa the POE WILL NOT give you any problem about vaccinations.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Unfortunately it is required up to the age of 26. USCIS requirements do not always match recommendations of family physicians. If you do not have it, your medical will likely reflect that your immunizations are incomplete and that may well be a problem. Short of a waiver you may be out of luck.

My doctor did say I didn't have to take it because wouldn't be effective in me, but that was not the case, the doctor in question was the official one, the one that is in the consulate list of official doctors. Not only one, but two of them that I called.

They were like "I recommend you to take it, but if you are short on money no you don't have to"

I understand the fact 2 Doctors told you you don't need it. Civil surgeons generally aren't very up to date on constantly changing immigration policies- they don't care if you get your visa or not. All they care about is getting you in and out as fast as possible and the wad of cash you are giving them.

In this case- do you trust the Doctor or USCIS Immigration policy?

That's true, I think I will ask the doctor when I'm having my medicals if I'd have any problem getting a visa for not taking that vaccine.

Let's say I don't take it, and the consulate asks about it, I could always say the doctor I had the medicals with told me I wouldn't have problems if I didn't take it right?

Well, I still don't know what to do, I'm having my medical next tuesday and I might call the consulate as well and see what they have to say about it.

I'm really tempted in not taking it though, thank you for all your answers. :)

Very good point, I think I'm gonna call the consulate first, because I searched online and I saw they have been trying to make that vaccine not mandatory. Maybe they've changed?? I'm hoping.

Oh well, if I have to pay I will pay, that opened my eyes.

^^Exactly! I would not take much comfort in the panel physicians' opinion on whether or not you will get your visa! To the best of my knowledge the requirement for HPV for ages 26 and under still stands. Telling the CO at your interview that the MD said you did not need it may fall on deaf ears. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!

^^^ Agreed with the above. The doctor isn't giving you the visa, the consulate is. Check with them. As for as I know it is a required vaccine needed to complete the immigration process - as recently as May 4 when I had mine done it was still required for all visas.

Good luck.

Thank you for all your answers.

So I called the consulate now, and the lady told me they trust what the doctor thinks is good for me, then I asked if I'd having any problem getting the visa if I don't have the HPV vaccine, and she totally said NO, I would not have any problems getting the visa. She even laughed a little bit and said the consul wouldn't deny me a visa because I don't have the vaccine.

So I guess I'm not gonna take it. :)

What I think it happens is this...in the medical report they don't mention which vaccines I've taken or not, they just mention if I'm ok and it's all good with me. I'm guessing.

Of course that can change depending on different consulates. I just wanted to let you know that I'm not taking the vaccine :)

Thanks for the update.

That is very interesting because that has NOT been the case with some filers here in Canada. In our sealed medical envelope there is a checklist of vaccinations and it does list what you have or have not had and there is NO leway for the HPV regardless of the MD's opinion.

In any case I am happy you were able to get an answer from the consulate. All the best on your journey! :)
