It's not culturally or legally acceptable in USA and I think most people here would think it is strange.

I second the notion. it's just wrong, weakens the gene pool.

there are some states that it is legal in...i think new york being one of them.

26 states allow first cousin marriages; most people can marry their cousin in the US.

My maternal grandparents were second-cousins. Ok, maybe that explains me <--

Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt were cousins. OK, 5th cousins once removed. Still it allowed them to keep the Roosevelt name in the family. Think of Eleanor Roosevelt: if she were on the VJ thread about "will you change your family name when you marry your husband?" she could say "yes" and "no" all at the same time!

And don't forget ####### Cheney  and :innocent:Barack Obama :innocent: are 8th cousins. How could such a great, perfect, flawless, holy, pure, and good man be related to such evil?

It is legal in some states like Cali where I am from and I DID marry my first cousin...we weren't raised together and I barely saw him cause he was soo far away. We fell in love and never thought of it as disgusting-it was actually an advantage to us in soo many ways.

He turned out perfectly normal as his parents are cousins although I don't know to what degree

wow

it is a valid question and is legal...in some states and countries.and no i would not marry a cousin as they all have butter faces

what if they were hot and pretty like catherine zeta jones or angelina jolie or a celebrity you like?

ok. i confess. yes i'd marry a cousin. if he was clive owen

lol

too complex

Victoria and Albert were cousins, were they not?

I think its normal but still kinda wierd because they are considered your sisters and brothers.

Why have you changed your country from Pakistan to England?

i was banned i made another id to enter and randomly selected england

I know in Cambodia, many rural communities prefer to marry cousins because that way they have trust within the marriage. I don't know how much of that is true. I also find it disgusting since it's their first cousin. If it were the 2nd or 3rd distance cousin I wouldn't mind, but 1st cousins is almost like marrying your own sister.

No I would not marry a cousin; like others said, too icky and birth defects of children possible.

My mom's maternal grandparents were first cousins (French ancestry), they had to get a special dispensation to marry (in MA, in the early 1900s).

In India even now it is very common to marry one's uncle (mother's elder brother), but cousins not so much so. While in India I saw MANY people with an extra toe (and other minor defects), probably due to so much inbreeding.
