im muslim, and i wanted the choice to find my own life partner, i understand that most think it is ok to marry their cousin, after studying about the medical problems that are typical of marriage by cousins i felt that there is enough normal risk to children having problems why add to it........besides wasnt it the romans or something that intermarried so much that they killed their own people off by the medical difficulties that finally ended them? not sure on that so feel free to correct me lol

so count me as someone that is against it

It's legal in the UK but it's not common & I think it's too freaky especially if they've grown up together. That would be a brotherly/sisterly type relationship.

Also their children might be born with webbed feet or 12 fingers!

It is not commonly practiced but it is legal to marry cousins in some states. I know a few people who married cousins (one was a first cousin and 2 were second cousins) and they all had children and the children are normal, healthy, completely fine. It was pretty common a hundred years ago, not just here but in parts of Europe and UK too.

That being said, I wouldn't marry any of my cousins!

It is legal in some states like Cali where I am from and I DID marry my first cousin...we weren't raised together and I barely saw him cause he was soo far away. We fell in love and never thought of it as disgusting-it was actually an advantage to us in soo many ways.

He turned out perfectly normal as his parents are cousins although I don't know to what degree

It's not culturally or legally acceptable in USA and I think most people here would think it is strange.

I second the notion. it's just wrong, weakens the gene pool.

there are some states that it is legal in...i think new york being one of them.

26 states allow first cousin marriages; most people can marry their cousin in the US.
