I checked the timeline, but i need some more clarification. So my fiance is coming to America and she is from Calgary. From what I understand Vancouver is the only place that does medical exams in her area. So she is going to have to fly to vancouver? Than Im assuming her interview will be Vancouver as well? is that all correct. What does she need to bring to the medical examiners place and what are they looking for ?

Yes, the Vancouver consulate handles all K1 applications for the west, including Calgary. She'll have to travel to Vancouver for both the medical (which are held only on Wednesdays) and the interview. Usually people who have to travel try and book that for the Thursday, so they can do it all on one trip, but it doesn't have to be done that way.

What to bring? Pretty much just herself, proof of vaccinations, and three passport-style photos. They will do a general medical (less than 10 minutes in most cases) and a blood test. They will also do a chest xray. They're pretty much looking for communicable diseases such as HIV, TB etc...

Assuming she is between 18-64 then this link covers which immunizations she will need (or have had in the past): http://panelphysicians.com/Pages/Age6.htm

Since she's Canadian, why don't you join us in the Canada forum. Lots of helpful people who know all about the Canadian journey: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showforum=93

Hope that helps!

This may be a dumb question, but do you have to setup an examination with the doctor is it like a walk in clinic ?

You'll have to make an appointment. The Dr in Vancouver only does immigration medicals on Wednesday mornings...like 6:30 am morning!

Once you've received your NOA2, they'll send your package to the Vancouver Consulate. Then Vancouver will contact your fiancee directly with a package ("Package 3") which will include instructions on how to set up the medical. If you want to see the current copy, check here:

Another thing. I'm having my interview there, (Vancouver) on June 23rd, but my medical will be on the 24th, the Wednesday. The consulate is fine with that as they don't issue approved visa's until the afternoon of the following day anyways. The medical can be done in the morning, (6:30 am!!), yes you need to make an appointment, I did mine online, and got the notice back that I can have it for the 24th, and you get the results that afternoon at 2:00. Pick up the results, and take them to the consulate. They're only about 10 blocks from each other. Then you can get the visa the same afternoon. All the instructions will come with the letter from the consulate. I'm doing it this way so I can go home that day and not have to stay an extra night in Vancouver.

Not to hijack the thread or anything...but I'm going to hijack the thread for a second :innocent: and ask: TimandJoyce, just out of interest, were you assigned your interview date, or did you pick it? I'm expecting a NOA2 within the next couple of weeks and wanted an interview ASAP. Others have said Vancouver was rather quick (1-2 weeks), but I see your interview is a lot later than that. :clock:

Just interested on getting some "current" information on how speedy they are right now.

Thanks! :)

I won't answer for Tim&Joyce, but on the package 3 checklist and information that you send back to the Consulate in Vancouver, they ask you if you have preferred dates. Unless something has changed, interviews were usually running one month from the time you sent your package 3 back. You can request asap, or some dates further along. They do try to accomodate. I had my package 3 from Vancouver at the end of August, but was trying to time a mini-vacation in Vancouver with my then fiance the time of the interview so requested an interview the around the 14-18 of November (and said why). I got the interview for the 17th. Probably because it was so far away from the August date they had no trouble accomodating me.

Another note, if you book your medical appointment, and get back to Vancouver with that date, they will try to give you an appointment date the day before or day after. As the medicals are only done on certain dates, they might be backed up, and so you might get an interview date later than when you want, just because of that. You could phone and find out how far along they're booking medicals now.

I suppose I could have requested an earlier date, but I had "heard" that the Consulate was full until the end of June, so I faxed off my information right away. I was pleasantly surprised to see the 23rd!! :D Wait until you get your letter from them, they'll explain everything they need, plus give you the medicals phone #, although it's voice mail only. I made my appointment with them online, and they'll show what vaccines they look for depending on age. ( I have to get some updates for that!!) The consulate will also ask when the proposed date of marriage is, so if you're hoping for say the middle of summer, then they may try to accommodate that, the med. office needs a couple weeks notice. Sorry for hijacking an answer ...hope it helps the OP some ;)
