Just got a phonecall from my Mum and Dad in England telling me that one of my Burmese cats was hit by a car yesterday and has died. Apparently she sustained massive head injuries. Someone was good enough to take her to the vet, but there was nothing that could be done for her.

For those of you who are not pet owners or animal lovers make think that I'm being silly over this, but the pain and grief that I am feeling at her loss is equal to that of losing a relative. My cats mean as much to me as a child would and the loss is devastating.

Iona (breed name Adfurbu Cassie's Baby) was born on 18th December 2003 and died June 28th 2006. She was two years old. One of a litter of 7, she came home with us at 3 months old with her brother Monte (Adfurbu Captain's Boy) and little sister Saskia (Adfurbu SweetiePie). Of the litter of 7 Iona was the most beautiful, she could have graced the show benches and won many awards, but I just loved her as a pet. Like all Burmese she was clever, but Iona was extra special. She always knew where her brother and sister were, she even led us to Monte when he was shut in someone's house for 5 days. Without Iona's intelligence and insistence on leading me back to the same place, I'm sure her brother would not have survived much longer without access to water or food. She was talkative and would sit on the table and chat at you if you were in the kitchen. She was agile and athletic, built like a ballerina, with long, strong limbs. She would make us all laugh the way she used to jump around the garden chasing flies. She was the picture of health and happiness. Her coat gleamed and was like silk to touch, she purred all the time and loved to press herself against your hand for one more stroke.

Most of all Iona loved her brother, they would sleep cuddled up together, she would always look for him and call him if she couldn't find him. Now Monte has lost the sister he was closest to, he's lost his playmate and he keeps wondering around the house looking for her.

Ironically, we did not bring her and her siblings here to America because we were worried about the busy road behind us, yet she was killed in a quiet neighborhood. I hope to God that she died quickly and did not suffer. I am grateful that her short life was a happy one, that she had a good home and that she was very much loved.

16th December 2005 - Sent I-130, AOS, EAD & AP USPS overnight to Chicago Lockbox

18th December 2005 - Received at Chicago 9.18pm.

23rd December 2005 - NOAs for I-130, AOS, EAD, AP!! Didn't expect them that quickly

13th January 2006 - RFE for Medical and additional I-864 info

17th January 2006 - INFOPASS Apt about RFE.

23rd January 2006 - Appointment notice for Biometrics on 10th Feb.

10th February 2006 - Biometrics Appointment

21st February 2006 - Medical. Cost $250 including all blood tests, Td Shot, TB test and Titers for MMR and Varicella.

27th February 2006 - Appointment with immigration lawyer re. RFE for I-864.

1st March 2006 - Final results Medical. Papers in hand to send.

10th March 2006 - RFE responses to Lees Summit

13th March 2006 - RFE responses signed for at Lees Summit

24th March 2006 - Emergency AP approved in Omaha

28th March 2006- Collected AP

31st March 2006 - EAD Approval online

7th April 2006 - EAD arrived in mailbox.

21st April 2006- Received Interview Date for 22nd June

9th May 2006- Received SSN

22nd June 2006- AOS INTERVIEW APPROVED

REMOVING CONDITIONS

June 20 2008 - Package mailed to CSC under new rules. Would have been an NSC transfer

June 23 2008 - Package recieved at CSC

June 27 2008 - Recieve NOA1

July 16 2008 - Biometrics

July 17 2008 - Touched

September 9 2008 - Card production ordered

I'm so very sorry for your loss. :(

We have 4 cats who are our babies. I know if anything happened to any one of them I would grieve. I hope that you can find some peace and know that the time you spent together was full of love.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how painful it is to lose a beloved animal family member and how hard it is to be so far away when it happened. Grieve for her loss and know that there are many who share and understand your grief. She had a lovely life with your family so remember her beauty and her love. From the description of the accident she probably did not suffer but ended her life quickly. Loving thoughts to you and your beloved Iona.

Sorry for your loss (F)

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

Conditional Green Card dated 24th October 2007

I-751 posted on 6th August 2009

Received on 7th August 2009 in VT
