Yeah they do. I think the basic idea is that all extinct species were killed off in the great flood and that carbon dating is unreliable and so can be discounted.

My colleague dismisses evolution in favour of Adam and Eve. I have however almost convinced him Micro evolution, once that i cemented I will work on the macro evolution.

Precisely. I do not dismiss his ideas or argue with him (mainly as its pointless, but also because it affects me none) but we are always debating the why's and wherefores of evolution.

There are Christians who believe in the possible timing of Evolution but that it was all started by God. There are variations of belief. I like how condescending certain people are towards born again Christians.

I thought it was interesting that the fossil was found in the 1980s but had been in someone's private collection all this time.

Condescending? I don't think it was - but really, it's hard to not find it funny (in the, how does that work then? way) when someone flies in the face of scientific evidence and concludes that the earth is X thousand years old and dinosaurs were playmates of Noah. I wonder how they understand the universe itself? It seems suspiciously like they still believe that the Earth is in the center of things and heavenly bodies can be counted on the fingers of two hands.

Only recently, the Hubble telescope showed us pictures of star activity that took place several billion years ago. How is that explained? How does the vastness and complexity of the universe fit in with this theory that god created man and man is the only important living being in this vastness?

Tangentially, I was listening to NPR yesterday, and the discussion was on 'god on the brain' and the relevance of temporal lobe epilepsy to the explanation of certain religious 'experiences'. While both sides of the argument can take some comfort from the science, the more we look into these matters, I believe the more it will be revealed that humans are simply subject to brain activity that we have interpreted as an external experience, but is in fact generated from within. This will be shown to be why certain phenomena are so vivid and real to a small percentage of the population and not to the majority. None of this is simple and easy to explain in terms of how humans should relate to the universe, but as these things become clearer, I do think humans will increasingly take charge of their own destiny, and not leave it in the hands of god.
