Hi there,

Ok so here is my scenario: I am a UK citizen who will be marrying my US fiance next year in the US. We then plan to apply for her Visa and come to live in the UK. As we are both quite impatient we want to apply for her visa in person in Wash. DC and then fly together to the UK straight after the wedding. But I have read it can take a few weeks to get the marriage license and I think we will need this to prove our wedding took place. Could anyone please help me with this enquiry????? Thanks so much!!

It took us a couple of weeks to get our cert. This is mostly for persons immigrating to the U.S, but there are a few that eventually move back to the UK that could maybe give you a bit of advice. Good luck!

There might be some information here as well:

BTW, I applied for my UK Entry Clearance at the British Consulate General in New York. I did it via online application & then followed up with overnighting the documents. They did offer same-day appointments though for people in a hurry. You might want to check out this website to find out where you need to go to apply in person:

Hi Gav,

I have just read your post and gather we are making similar plans - It is my intention to marry Kelly in Indiana and then move back to the UK together. How are you getting on? Set a date? Have you found anything of value that you could forward to me?

Look forward to hearing back from you,

James

A friend of mine did this recently. Went to texas on a visa waiver telling immigration he was going for his wedding (with documentation showing he was coming back to the uk) and they got her visa for the UK in 5 days while they were still on honey moon. Much easier doing it this way round than trying to live in the USA!!

Good luck!!!
