So my name is josh (mispelled screenname lol)

I begin by saying hi to everyone and goodluck.

Well ill try to make it quick.

My fiancee is from Norway me being from the U.S we meet long while ago and i just recently asked her to marry me and she said yes.

Now to your little problem we are both disabled (same form of Muscular Dystrophy) thats how we actually meet. I know if she wanted to become a citizen we would hjave many issues along with whats seems to be the normal headaches.

we want to get married asap but we are not intrested in her becoming a US citizen nor do i want her to just yet i know its a long process but its our choice not to start it yet.

My main question that im having a very hard time finding the answer to is what if anything is required for us to marry here in the US if she does not want citezenship. Alot of stuff ive read all has to do with immigrating here after being married but thats not our case. She lives in Norway which is part of the VWP (visa waiver program) but can we get married just using that if she returns to Norway or am i still going to have to go through the process of obtaining a K1 visa or the likes.

Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated, Josh

Josh,

What is it that you want? Are you asking if she can come here, get married then go home and wait until you file and save enough to be able to support her?

She can come on the VWP and marry you, then go back home and wait until the visa is approved and you are ready for her to come live here with you.

Or do you ever plan on her living here? You just want to marry her? If thats the case, she can come on the VWP and marry, then just go home.

citizenship is NOT a requirement. My husband has no desire to become a citizen. I have a friend who has been here for 40+ years and is not a citizen. It's a choice, not a requirement.

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

this is what we want if anything id move to norway so at this point we just want to be married. I just dont want anything to prevent it when she does get here for use to be married.

is there anything that could be an issue if she came here on a VWP and we got married she still would be able to stay the full 90 days?

and i do appreciate the time thats being taken to help us, thank you

My appoligies for not being so clear

Ya, try starting at: travel.state.gov

There is a plethora of info there and its easy to navigate and find what you are looking for.

Agreed. She can totally come and visit and marry as long as she doesnt overstay.

Best wishes on your marriage and future move to Norway.

Agreed. This is actually similar to what I will be doing, going to SO's country to marry then returning. I have researched from our prospective and so far there are no problems with it as long as I do not overstay. Congratulations on your engagement and best of luck!

Yes you can do what you are thinking to do. If she can obtain a visitor's visa, she can come here and you two can get married. Then when her visa time is up she goes back. Then when you are ready to leave, you leave and go live with her. You'll need to find out what kind of visa you will need to stay with her. Go to her country's embassy website and do some research.
