More chestbeating nationalism = just what we need

Seems like you and your country could do with a bit more of that..... it's sad to watch your once great country wither on the vine. (no really)

When one considers the decline of the British Empire, it should be a lesson to us all about these things.

Oh we have plenty of nationalist chestbeaters - they are the ones who go around spraypainting "pakis go home", "England for the English" etc etc etc.

The National Front and the BNP are actually enjoying a boost in popularity these days, as are far right groups across much of Europe (as evidenced by the recent elections in Switzerland and Austria). Even the French left wing has taken a sudden turn to the right with their election of Sarkozy (their version of Bush).

As to the decline of the British Empire - what lesson do you think we should learn from it? That old school imperialism is a good idea?

"Don't run up a lot of debt maintaining a world wide empire and then get involved in a world war." (i.e., not much to do with languages or a lack of chest-beating nationalism.)

Well one thing is clear - THIS country hasn't learned much from that "lesson", given that we've run up mountains of debt and have embroiled ourselves in a "global war on terror".

America's official language should be Esperanto.

Or perhaps Klingon.

Or an African Khoisan dialect with lots of "click" sounds. Yes, that's it. Every American should be forced to immediately learn and communicate in Khoisan.

It's been put to a vote. All states west of the Mississippi will begin speaking in Klingon effective Monday morning.

All states east of the Mississippi will speak in Khoisan clicks at the same time.

The populations of Hawaii and Alaska will be trained to speak both, so that they may translate between the two regions of the country which will otherwise be cut off from each other.
