I agree! I have successfully filed my return (jointly), and my husband is in J'burg. There are few extra steps, but I did it! Fire that lawyer, he's not honest

Timeline

I found the IRS telephone helpline to be very good and it is free. You can actually talk to real people when you call, not just a bunch of recordings and menus. Be sure you fill out the W-7 and include with your return. It is for Tax ID No. for your wife to use for tax purposes until she gets SSN.
