How long does it usually take from getting biometrics for an AOS to actually having the interview and getting the permanent residency, I am quite lost on the whole process. I had my biometrics done last week for my AOS, what is next? I asked the immigration people at the biometrics and they just said wait for a letter, and walked off...hmmm. Thanks!

Milkman,

There's no direct correlation betwee the two, other than that the biometrics will usually (always?) come before the interview.

Juts like Yodrak said, biometrics will usually come before the interview. Currently processing times are a lot faster than reported, so hopefully you will get your interview letter soon.

Hi Tomica,

I was reading your post thanks for the information. I was curious to know what is AP as I too filed for the AOS & EAD on the 7th of June'06 from Houston & sent it to Chicago, I am on K1 VISA.

Can you help me, thanks!

The Appoitment letter states all you need is the appoitment letter & a photo identification.

All the best, I have my apoitment on Thursday

Udiken,

AP is Advance Parole. It is basically permission to return to the US if you leave after your original K-1 arrival in the US, but before you are approved for Conditional Permanent Residency. For example, my husband's parents are elderly, so we thought it best to apply for AP at the same time as AOS and EAD. That way, if he needs to leave suddenly for his home country, we do not have to wait for emergency AP, and we have a reasonable expectation that he will be allowed back in the US upon his return. I think our experience is normal (thus far) in that the EAD and AP were granted much faster than AOS, for which we are still preparing. See our timeline.

Of course you can leave the US whenever you like, it's just getting back in that may be difficult.

Best wishes!

Maya

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!

This is just our experience...your mileage may vary:

Biometrics appointment - early February

EAD arrived in mail two weeks later.

AOS interview - early May

Green Card arrives in mail - mid June.
