paperclips.

You can staple (gasp) the check to the form.

No Acco fasteners.

(no other staples)

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

My AOS package was returned to me, after they had taken it all apart. They had taken out the acco fasteners and just stapled various parts together. So, now I just send all forms with paperclips, seeing as they will take it apart anyways.

From the USCIS website Tips for Filing Petitions and Applications to the National Benefits Center, which is where AOS is filed.

Of note: Use paperclips when attaching supporting personal documents to forms (do NOT use “ACCO” fasteners; staples are acceptable when attaching fees).

Guess it depends on who you send it to - this is from the USCIS site:

•In preparing your packet, please take note of the following:

•Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled.•

Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.

•The use of tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing.

•Avoid using heavy-duty staples; instead use ACCO fasteners or heavy clips.

We stapled the pages of each respective form together, and used paper clips to attach the supporting documents to the respective forms, except for the passport photos, which we put into small ziploc bags, which got stapled to the pertaining form after the names were written on the back of the photos in soft pencil.

Then we stuck it all into a Fedex cardboard envelope and off it went.

I think so too. It depends where the app. is going...

In the General tips on assembling it says:

Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.

Now when filing petitions and applications with the Chicago Lockbox and NBC (National Benefits Center):

Use paperclips when attaching supporting personal documents to forms (do NOT use “ACCO” fasteners; staples are acceptable when attaching fees.

so i guess it's paperclips and cross my fingers that everything goes well.

We sent in AOS/EAD/AP so I had three separate "bundles", each with a paperclip holding that application and it's supporting documents together. I made one cover sheet with the check paperclipped to it and put it on top of the 3 bundles. Then I just slid it in a US Postal Service priority mail mailer without using a folder or tabs. It's somebody's job to open the mail and organize the application and that person won't be the one who approves you. Maybe they curse the sloppy ones or the ones they have to spend 30 minutes taking apart, but it most likely won't affect your approval much. I'm sure they get all kinds of submissions and as long as everything is there then it's fine.

That's pretty funny. They probably can't figure out why they get so many applications with ACCO fasteners, and so posted the instructions not use them.

thanks

I mailed my AOS package yesterday and used ACCO fasteners at the top of the pages. If the USCIS would put specifics about filing in the specific forms instructions things would be easier and stop confusion. I did the same with my Petition to the USCIS and had no problems. I guess I will find out soon I sent it over night EXpesss mail and they will receive it today. My wife's 90 days of being here is May 25.
