We're talking about annoyances that the USC has in dealing with the new immigrant husband/wife's adjustment, right?

One thing I sometimes get annoyed with is constantly having to explain things. I can't believe there are STILL things I'm explaining a year and some months later! I'll probably be 84 years old, God willing, explainging what this that or the other thing is. It's almost like having another child in a sense. So much that about two months ago my husband was giving me a test that he got back from this course he was taking and what did I do? I freakin' signed and dated it just like I do to my daughters' tests when they hand them to me!:lol::lol: He was like, "why are you signing it, honey?" and all of a sudden I snapped out of mommy mode and realized what I was doing and started cracking up laughing! lol

I'm to the point now where I just tell him to google it. He laughs at me.

99% of his questions are things I don't know the answer to anyway, so I tell him "Google it honey"

:)

My husband laughed at me one day that I decided to make home made pizza and bought the ingredients, made a beautiful crust, topped it all with lots of mozarella, onions, tomatoes, ham, olives, oregano and olive oil (regular brazilian toppings) and then put it in the oven.

Several minutes later (as in 30-40 minutes) I didn't understand why the damn cheese wasn't all bubbly and melting, till my husband grabbed the cheese bag and said "Laura, what were you thinking?!? This is imitation mozarella". Of course the cheese never melted, plus it tasted like plastic, very very bad, the whole thing went straight to the trash.

I got furious 'cus he talks as if I was an idiot for buying fake cheese, until I reminded him that in Brazil, there's no FAKE cheese. Cheese is cheese, you have different qualities and everything but how was I supposed to know they sold fake cheese!!!

Btw, it wasn't decoration cheese, it was in the cheese section with all the other cheese, and the bag said MOZARELLA in huge letters and then written tiny tiny tiny at the bottom it said "imitation mozarella".

So I'm the one who went #######?!!??!

It's called "American cheese." And all I can say, as a USC, is EWW.

 No, I don't mean the american cheese slices (cheddar or swiss) velveeta style or whatnot, I mean it was a big bag of shredded mozarella, and it said imitation, it wasn't just bad quality, the ingredients list was like a blend of oils, it didn't have milk in it. :o

EDIT: Oh, and I learned to read the packages more carefully afterwards, as there's more unbelievable ####### in the supermarkets here.

Fried chicken in US is pretty different from what we have in India, well the basic different is breading. In India you don't bread it. I am not yet accustomed to the breaded fried stuff, I hate fish like that.

I don't eat breaded stuff either. I just use hot sauce, salt, pepper, garlic salt and dip it in flour and fry it. it comes out kind of crispy but not exactly breaded. For fish I just salt and dip in corn meal and fry it....so it's crispy.

I know we hate stereotypes but I am a black woman and I just never met another black person who hadn't had fried chicken.. It shocked me. That was when I started noticing the differences we had. But I enjoy those differences.

Aaaaaaah, cheese. Or not-cheese, as the case may be ;)

My other half sometimes finds it strange that I hardly eat any cheese except provolone when I'm in the US...I don't eat a lot of cheese at home either but it's a LOT easier to find cheese that is actually cheese in the UK - in the US if I pick up some cheese I really don't know what I'm letting myself in for!!

That said I'm sure provolone isn't exactly made with the finest ingredients but I'm not sure I wanna know....ignorance is bliss!!

I know what you mean, boy did I have to throw away all the "processed" cheese I bought. I went for shopping on my own and I just picked up the first packet I saw stating as cheese. I come home, a few days later I give my husband some cheese slices and he is ready to throw them in the trash :P

I was amazed to see all the imitation thing, imitation crab s*cks :P

It's actually made for people who can't or choose not to eat any dairy. Like vegans for example, since they can't have anything that comes from an animal.

I'm a USC, si man, and every time I go into the ice-cream emporium that offers 395,018.6 flavors ("flavours" if in Canada), I'm continually disappointed each time they reply "Sorry; we don't have 'pork'."

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

I have had garlic ice cream...interesting, and wasabi flavored which was perfectly disgusting. But I long for the day when I can taste moose flavored ice cream.

My poor husband had to interfere with my first Christmas cooking this past year. I found this beautiful, big, cured ham, perfect for a Swedish Christmas Dinner. I put it into the oven and waited for the thermometer to reach the right temperature. Finally it was done and I pulled it out. It did look weird but hey, the thermometer had reached 75 degrees so it is done, almost overcooked. :o

A few minutes later my husband walks over to my nice ham and says "It is RAW! Are you sure this is right?" That was when I realized that the thermometer was showing Fahrenheit.... :bonk:
