Soooooo.... I love this thread.

My husband committed one of these crimes yesterday. I cooked rice (of course, what else would he eat) among other things and I fell asleep really early on Wed. So come yesterday Morning, I ran out of the house like a mad woman to get the kids to school and get to work, and he hadn't put the food away from the night before. Needless to say, I get home at 4pm and what is he eating? Day old sat out food .... AGAIN. I was like... "you're eating that?" and he said "yeah I ate it when I got home from work too and I'm feeling fine."

Totally gross. I never could comprehend that. I had to show my husband what tupperware and ziploc bags were and how to use them as well, LOL

He's an extremely smart guy but common sense things in America just aren't common sense things in Peru I suppose.

He's been here 9 months & I have to say, he loves it here. I always ask him if he's okay, if he misses Peru and he just says "I miss my family & playing soccer." That's it? He's americanized too quickly. I got him hooked on Dunkin Donuts iced coffee already and everything.

OH! He decided he doesn't like our ring mop (which is a nice one!) and he mopped the floor with a stick and my hand towel from the bathroom. He almost died and that will never happen again, LOL. I spent a lot of money on those nice towels!!!

I don't like the brooms out here either. For carpets vaccum works good and I am good with it, but for kitchen, bathroom and outside area one need to use broom, and the kind of broom I am used to, they don't have it here.

I love your things about Aggies!!! I live in College Station and have never met so many idiots who just think they are the smartest people. My boss is a great example, very proud to be an Aggie, and always thinks he knows better. He just can't stand it when I, with my thick accent, correct him in front of others.

Letty

"I carried my wife to the grocery store today to get eggs and bread".
Holy mackerel... even I, an ensconced and long-term Texan, had never heard this one. Was it a redneck from East Texas, or (worse) a Texas Aggie?

Q: Why do Aggies keep their diplomas on their car dashboards?

A: So they can park in the Handicapped zones, si man.

I wouldn't have cared as much if he had done it with a rag, I'm pretty laid back... but those are some NICE towels!

Oh and BTW today is free donut day at Dunkin Donuts when you buy a drink... so go get your free donut ASAP lol

Some people are just more adaptable than others. My husband doesn't miss Germany. I never missed America when I lived in Germany. It's really a great thing that your husband is adapting so well. :)

What still gets me going is the greeting here in Texas. When people walk of and say: "have a good one". Always wondering what that "one" is supposed to mean. Why can't you just say have a good day?!

Texas speak is a language all its own, isn't it. ;)

Some of my favorites:

I'm fixin' to...(whatever you're about to do)

Go ahead and...(whatever you're about to ask or tell someone to do)

'Preciate ya (instead of thank you)

I like to...(whatever you almost did)

Dad gum it! (instead of damn it)

Can't think of any more right now!

One of my favourites is "might could". My husband says it quite frequently. He might could do lots of stuff. Hehe.

02/13/09 -

02/19/09 - I-130 mailed out

02/27/09 - NOA1

03/19/09 - NOA2

05/07/09 - NVC CASE COMPLETE!

06/23/09 - Received interview appointment letter via email! Yay!

08/19/09 -Interview! SUCCESS!! (Wanna read a ridiculously long interview review? Click the link!)

08/21/09 - Visa received!

09/11/09 - POE (Alexandria Bay, NY)

09/28/09 - Received Permanent Resident card

06/28/11 - Sent 1-751 to VSC

01/20/12 - I-751 approved!

Q: How did the Aggie break his leg while raking leaves?

Ya know...neither of us is from Tx yet...but I told him (he's from Holland, I am in So. Cal.) that I missed him something fierce. He thought that was the oddest thing to say. I had to explain that it meant I missed him a lot. LOL...he was a bit confused.

My husband is not in the US yet, but I can't wait until he comes. There are so many foods he has never had before.

He is living in Italy now and is Nigerian. He had never had fried chicken before he met me.

When I told my family he had never tasted fried chicken, their eyes almost popped out of their heads as they gasped in horror. HaHA

I also tried to prepare gumbo for him since it is similar to some of the soups he eats, but I couldn't find the right spices in Italy. He loves Gumbo....so do I.

I am looking forward to having fun feeding him and I hope he gets a belly because he is just a stick figure right now.

Fried chicken in US is pretty different from what we have in India, well the basic different is breading. In India you don't bread it. I am not yet accustomed to the breaded fried stuff, I hate fish like that.

We're talking about annoyances that the USC has in dealing with the new immigrant husband/wife's adjustment, right?

One thing I sometimes get annoyed with is constantly having to explain things. I can't believe there are STILL things I'm explaining a year and some months later! I'll probably be 84 years old, God willing, explainging what this that or the other thing is. It's almost like having another child in a sense. So much that about two months ago my husband was giving me a test that he got back from this course he was taking and what did I do? I freakin' signed and dated it just like I do to my daughters' tests when they hand them to me!:lol::lol: He was like, "why are you signing it, honey?" and all of a sudden I snapped out of mommy mode and realized what I was doing and started cracking up laughing! lol
