I was in thailand for my wifes visa interview on april 1,2009. and was denied her visa because supposevly we had no proof of relationship. I guess the wedding certificate, the emails, the phone bills, the pictures of us together and I even had all the plane tickets I had from all the times i went there. They had asked me how come I only come once a year to visit her. I told them I am in the military and it is not easy for me to take leave all the time so I come once a year for a whole month.

Now they tell me her case has been turned over to the fraud prevention unit because they think our marriage is a fraud. My wife called me and told me that they had called her and said she has a FPU interview tomorrow. I was wondering does anyone know what we should expect. I tried to take leave again so I can be there, but my command denied my request. So now I have a feeling they are going to give my wife a hard time. Any help on this matter I would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Lately there have been numerous cases with interviews in Bangkok that are getting rough treatment. In many cases they are issuing 221g demanding additional evidence of relationship. Forwarding cases to the FPU is rare, I'm not sure what would trigger that. Can you describe how things went at the interview? Was there anything in their line of questioning that may provide a clue as to why they're suspecting fraud? Anything in your past or your wife's past that might be a hint?

You many want to check out the sawasdee3 thread http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=175951 since many of us going through the process in Thailand hang out there to compare notes.

Good luck!

They told me we need a letter of good conduct from the Singapore embassy because my wife was a restaurant mgr there. I told them on there own website it states if it has been more than 5 yrs we dont need it. My wife was there 11yrs ago. So I dont need it. The man who did the interview wasa big bald guy and a thai woman. I was not allowed to go in the interview with my wife. When my wife came back from the interview she was extremely upset because she told me that the thai woman yelled at her and called hera liar and that if she did not tell the truth about when she gets to america she is going to divorce me she will go to jail. My wife said she was going to divorce me and she loved me and why is she yelling at her. So I am truly getting aggervated.

The "big bald guy" is well known to us on the Sawasdee3 thread. As is the Thai assistant and her intimidating tactics. There have been numerous reports of tough interviews with this team.

Well I am not sure what else they would need to prove that it is legit so. I will have to wait and see what happens. It seems like the only time things get done is when I am there in person putting pressure on them. I heard that bald guy even denied a visa to a cpl that had a baby together and they even had a DNA test to prove he was the father and he was on the birth certificate. I am about to put a name, phone number and a email address of someone at the embassy that gave me his business card.

That big bald guy worries me, When my wife has to go for her interview. I think he is just a mean person with personal problems. We have 1 son together and we are planning our second child now, So she will be pregnant at the interview with our second child. I just pray we don't get them. Even on the Thai group my wife reads they talk about them too. The one hope is I heard they rotate the staff around from time to time. I hope that is true.

So I take it one trigger is the amount of times you see your wife.

I see my wife once a yr because I am in the military so I take leave once a yr for 30 days. Now for the bald guy I heard he is like the onlyone but I could be wrong. Just bring as much proof as possible. Has she ever been married or have kids from another man. The only reason why I ask is because the will have you go to the Ompur and get a letter stating that she has never been married or is not currently married to the childs father. But since you have a child with her already it should not be a problem (Hopefully).

I lived with my wife in Bangkok for 2 years, and they gave me 221g. That guy has issues. I am not sure what handing it over to the fraud unit means.

Well like the other say he has turned down married people with kids before. I am just look for all trigger that he uses. so I can cover them all.

I really don't know what will happen if she is turned down. I guess I would end up quitting my job here and moving to Thailand with my family.

This Kojack jerk has caused a lot of trouble for well intentioned people from what I have read. Certianly a contrast to what we experianced with a female officer.

The good thing about getting sent to the fraud unit is that Kojack wont review the case & that may turn the tide in your favor. Lets hope so.

Your US military sevice should account for something. Any question he would have about your visitations should be understandable to anyone especialy an employee of the US government.

That guy needs to be fired! Just reading your message upset me. You had the marriage certificate, photos, emails and phone calls!! That is ridiculous. What if you couldn't afford to go more often. I tell you, those officers have too much control. The evidence that was shown is what most people use to get approved. Everyone that has been through that guy should file a complaint after they are finally approved. He needs the boot.

VISA APPROVED!!!!!

It depends what emails and phone calls you have?. I know being prior service it's not always possible to keep heavy contact but I used cthai and after a year asked them to email me my phone log (I always recharge the same code). Someone also told me of another voip online calling that keeps a log of your calls.

Pictures: make sure they're with family and you and she and all the regular family reunion stuff people do. I understand the kid would raise a flag. I call my fiancee daily (maybe 350 times a year or more) and have logs of them all. I also gave her my atm so she uses it over there and I have the money trail via the other expensive methods earlier.

How many pics? What was the content of emails? At what point was it the red flag was raised? Do you know what stood out to raise that flag? Kojak is well known and it's unfortunate. Who wouldn't want a better life and if they find a decent man, why not let that be from here?

The lady seems reasonable and understands the responses from Thai women ("do you love him?" answer "He takes care of he good, sends money to me and family" Farang interpretation: scammer Thai interpretation: true love, a keeper. Over there, love IS money because no one's sending money to someone they don't trust and they don't love. I hate parting with my money...but for love, it's easy. Same with her. She's parted with her hard earned money to buy me things, too.

Their responses will never be mushy romantic like we'd expect. The feelings may be there but the culture is more reserved so I imagine that gets misinterpreted A LOT by Kojak.

Now if he's lived there, spoke Thai and understands the culture (I hear it can take 5 years to "get it" ) then I'd think he's giving them a fair shake. If' he's a typical gov't employee never nothering to immerse into the culture and only speaks English, I'd imagine the scammer radar is high (he likely gets scammed to and from work daily).

Not having a single eligibility (Bai rub rong sod) is a no-no, though. Make sure all the ducks are in a row if anyone's reading and has not submitted yet. Make sure everything you do has proof if it happened.

I suppose anyone can scam the system and memorize stuff (how many legit relationships study the questionnaire before the interview?). It's unfortunate the scammers give a bad name to the legit's. How many get married and are completely duped? I have a VN friend of mine who came here in the 1970's and he went back and found a wife from the sticks...the DAY she got her green card, she left him, called her ex husband and started working on getting him over. That devastated him. How could he know (and he's VN)! It's amazing the lengths some will go to so they try their best at screening and trying to protect us. I imagine our embassy is trying to protect us, as well.

If they ask my fiancee why, she said she'd tell them "you think I'm going to drop my life, my friends, my family and my country I dearly love to go to some strange land with strange food and an unknown future how I'll be treated if I didn't love him?"

Everyone's different. There very well could be people posting that are mid-scam and don't know it. On the other hand, there are legit marriages denied. Such a complicated world. I hope it all works out if it's meant to be.
