I know, for example, in my case... my SO is from Poland and when they issue the K1 visa, they will actually cancel her tourist visa so there would be no legal way for her to enter the US without activating the K1. If I extend the logic, I would say the State Department does not allow K1 holders to enter the US without activating the K1, but that is just an opinion.

Hey fellas,

maybe I am slow but WHY dont we want to activate our visas????????

I have not read any reasons- perhaps to keep our health insurance???? Please help me understand!

Thanks,

Ohmy

Not everyone is ready to move right away after receiving their visas. I waited 4.5 months, for different reasons. Financial, nowhere to live in the US yet, etc. However in those 4.5 months, I still wanted to see my honey. So he just came to see me instead!

K1 is a one time use... once you go in, you can't come back until you have AP or your GreenCard. Some people have affairs to take care of or jobs to work at for a bit before they can leave.

I chose to stay so I could save more money and move when the weather was nice and warm!

Hi guys,

We got our NOA2 on May 21st...

I know we still have a lot to do before getting our K1 but I can't enter in USA before fall...I'm working in Caribbean now and I can't leave right now...I'm trying to find someone to replace me at work...but to make a long story short, my mom is sick and I want to spend some time with her before moving...

I have a question...how many months after you got the K1 visa can you wait to enter in USA?

Thanks for your help

6 months. What some have done is gone to the interview, and then had Mtl(vancouver) wait in issuing the visa. When they are ready, they have mailed their passport to the proper consulate to issue the visa. But keep in mind, that doesn't happen overnight, lol Soemtimes takes a few weeks.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
