Just had an earthquake in So. CA.... only a few seconds, and not too much shaking. No news yet. Lai wants to be ready to go outside right away in case another hits, but I told her this is really nothing.

To watch? That's like me telling Tim I'll want to be a storm chaser when we hear of tornadoes and lightening storms..lol....

Hope there's not too much damage or anything from the quake.

LOS ANGELES, May 17 (Reuters) - A prolonged earthquake shook the Los Angeles area on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The USGS, which described the earthquake as "moderate," said the magnitude was 5.0.

The quake was 8.4 miles (13.52 km) deep and centered near the community of Lennox, about 10 miles (15 km) southwest of downtown Los Angeles.

Residents across a wide area of Los Angeles felt a sharp rumbling that lasted 10 to 15 seconds at about 8:39 p.m. (11:39 p.m. EDT/0339 GMT). A spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department said there were no immediate reports of damage or injury.

I don't think I ever felt one when I lived in LA.

Happy this was a small one :)

I felt one when living in the Bay area. It was centered around Gilroy (just south of San Jose), about 30 miles from my house. I remember being in the kitchen unloading the dishwasher and it suddenly felt like I was on the deck of a boat. Lasted about 20 secs as I recall. That was about enough action for me.

The only ones I ever felt were in Indiana. My only observation...I heard them before I felt them each time.

It was mild. Fact is I never felt it. My wife and friends told me there was an earthquake. I just noticed the chandelier was moving. But earthquakes are relatively common in California. It's a fact of life here. I've been here less than six months and I've already experienced three quakes already.

It shook our apartment quite a bit, but then we're not too far off the epicenter (5 or so miles). wasn't like the usual moderate quakes for us which I'm getting pretty used to now, when I get hit coming out of the bathroom by a darned picture frame I know it's no small one lol, takes a lot to shake those off the wall ;)

Not to watch. She thinks we would be safer if we ran outside... a few things fell, but no damage here. We're about 50 miles from the epicenter.
