Her books sell and she is popular enough to make a decent living doing what she does. Just because she isn't your cup of tea doesn't mean other people don't read her stuff.

My grandparents and the wife's grandparents (born 1920's and 30's) were all from large families (4-8 kids). I think it was pretty common back then.

The statement "she is a despicable human being" doesn't imply (at all) that she doesn't have the right to publish her work.

Popularity of course does not equal quality. That of course is entirely subjective - but less so if you suggest that her work doesn't bear academic scrutiny (and in terms of quoting and referencing - it doesn't).

You are going back way too far, most families I grew up with had 3-5 kids....None were croaking from illness nor working on farms.

BUt this is more about the social pressure women are under.

I recall one family I used to know back in NJ. They had 6 boys, (finally no.7 was a girl).

Seems the guys in our circle would joke a little with him but I never heard a judgmental or negative comment in his presence ... or behind his back, I kinda envied the guy.

One day his wife told me she could not count the snide remarks she had gotten from other women to the point where she even feels a little uncomfortable to "admit" she has a lot of kids to strangers when asked.

Apparently THE MAINSTREAM doesn't see her in the same way you do as she is featured in plenty of mainstream publications and mainstream TV shows.

I don't know anyone who 'vilifies' a woman simply because of the number of kids she has. There are judgments rendered every day on women who have kids without being able to support them financially (you do it yourself as I recall) but that is not the same thing.

There is also a legitimate concern that potentially larger families could place an unfair burden of care on siblings rather than parents that could detriment their own education and future (and in the past this burden of care fell on the female children almost exclusively).

Make of that what you will.

Commentators of every political stripe that rely on dodgy premises to divide people into 'us and them' mentalities are shallow and lack any real merit. Look at that piece you posted. The premise is that 'sexy women' will be vilified by ugly people because of jealousy. Oh she dresses that up a little to try to disguise it but that's it in a nutshell. The only clever thing about it (and it's not that clever) is that she does it in such a way as to suggest that if one agrees, one is one of the 'sexy people' and if one disagrees one has to be one of the 'sweaty bald' people. She of course self identifies with the 'sexy' group. (If she believes her own tripe, which I have to presume she does, at least to some extent)

Actually the bigger truth in the article was equating the political straight-jacket woman have been placed in to a Burqa.

Example, although Sarah Palin has stated she believes in teaching abstinence ALONG with sex-ed, never the less we have seen the beating she has taken on this issue.... the effect on all woman? If you believe in Abstinence only, you better keep it under your burqa.

Many of us recall the time when a family having 4 kids was... normal.

Today if young woman were to admit to her college peers she hopes to have 4 kids she is promptly referred to a "womans Studies" course to -get her mind right-
