Wow, USCIS apologised to *me*

I just called the National Customer Service Center to confirm my change of address (I have already mailed in the AR-11 and I-865 forms) because my interview is next month and I want to avoid any confusion.

The gentleman who spoke with me said their 'database is not working' and that I'd need to call back later. He apologised repeatedly for the inconvenience that will cause *me*.

I'm in shock.

There only human. Anyone who has had any sort of customer-service related job will have a good idea of what these guys go through..

I understand why the USCIC folks get fed up with visa applicants...I think that if I had to sit there and take calls from po'd people all day I'd go a little crazy too! However, it is their job and they should be courteous, and it's good to hear that they are from time to time

I steeled myself before I called, knowing that generally the person who answers the phone is pretty fed up with their job. That's why this man's politeness caught me by surprise! I just hope I get the same bloke when I have to call back.

It's just so much nicer to deal with polite people.

Best of luck with your interview.I did customer service/IT helpdesk for a year when i finished college, i shudder everytime i think about the experience now.

They were nice and polite anytime i ever called them.

But I think they should have better computer system because their computers shut down and messed up thier staff all the time...

That guy deserves a commendation just for his politeness alone! Anytime someone like that is nice to me I always try to at least send an email to the appropriate person complimenting the person who was helpful to me.

That might freak them out, yanno?

Contrary to all the negative posts about USCIS - they do a fairly decent job (I have dealt with many govt. and private businesses here in the USA the last 20 plus years.) I and some of my fellow Colombian K1ers had no problems and for me and my fiancee all the contacts were quite pleasant (yes, I had an RFE also!)

And one thing in your dealings, if you are aware of the limitation of information at each contact level and the fact that your getting angry won´t get you anything will make your experiences better (I was billed by CHASE for a credit card I never used and took me 3 months to get it all cleaned up and most of the contacts didn't or couldn't give me any info but I did't get angry and my experience was quite pleasant and satisfactory with the employees - the bank and their policies and procedures (well they suck!)

I have to say that I have always gotten respect and good treatment from the people on the phone. They just don't seem to have access or info beyond what you can find yourself. Let's face it they are contractors that are hired to listen to complaints. They have no authority or insight. We should give the folks a break. They really try hard. If you have ever worked on a contract to the government you would know that you are treated like #######. I am sure they could each do a couple of pages on VJ that would break your heart.
