Missing CBC Reporter Found after she digs herself out of snowbank

A longtime CBC reporter and radio host who had gone missing on a trip to her family's cabin near 100 Mile House in British Columbia was found safe Friday night.

Lydia Neufeld, 47, spent Thursday night in her car after it got stuck in a snowbank half a metre tall on Camp 2 Road, and then dug herself out with her hands, RCMP Const. Jamie Parsons told CBC News.

"The lady was found safe and in good health," he said, adding that she was well-prepared with food, warm clothes and bedding.

The RCMP had dispatched a search and rescue team when Neufeld failed to arrive at her destination Thursday night. She had been last seen buying gas at a service station in Clearwater B.C. about 5:30 p.m.

I always travelled with a winter emergency kit in the back of the car that included food, stuff to melt snow, blankets, extra clothing, dry socks, hats and mittens, candles and matches, and then the basic car stuff. It pretty well lived in the trunk year round - I would just replace the food stuff and the emergency candles each fall. Still, it is a pretty neat story. Good for her.

I also used to keep a couple packets of cookies or granola bars in my glove box, for when I got stuck in 401 traffic on Friday evenings.

Enroute to Kamloops on May 5th, we ran into a mini blizzard on the Coqhilla highway! Was quite amazing, and ran into more snow on the way back! One has to be prepared elevations and in Northern Canada
