We just sent back pack 3 yesterday the 18th may my best guess is that we will get interview mid July.

the cheapest air tickets I have found are with SINGAPORE AIRLINES Hong Kong to San Francisco $518.84 and they are the same price all year not going up and down like all other airlines don't fly to Los angles it cost more from sfo to Tulsa $149.20 American Airlines.Total HKG to TUL $668.04 EACH.

this way I will have to book 2 different tickets and it is saving me about $1500.00 going this way for the 3 of us.

After you reach USA you can fly about any where for about $150.00. JUST BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR CONNECTION TIMMING IN SFO.

You aren't going there for the interview?

No need to shout, it was a simple question. You said "I will have to book 2 different tickets" and I was not sure what you meant (this thread being "Who's going to China this June/July/August?" and you are not going to China).

We decided when I arrived in July/August that we will take a long train trip. Hunan to Guangzhou, to Nanning, then back to Hunan. Total trip is about $100 each for the three of us. About 32 hours in total travel time but we will have plenty to see.

Still looking for my best plane ticket. Checking flights between Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul, and the USA.

It does seem like flychina has the best price for us eastcoasters.

Six trips since 2005, never paid over 1K. Your right about taxes

and fees with them, it's included. That under 1K was to GZ also

not HK. We made 3 trips to HK from NC paid the same but still

had the mess on the border to deal with then the train trip.

It was nice but once was enough.

found this site: http://www.uschinatrip.com

For my dates of last week of July to last week of August:

$1100 RT Chicago to Hunan

$950 RT Chicago to Shanghai (my destination is in Hunan so I'd have to catch a domestic flight about $100)

Pretty much the same prices as http://www.flychina.com

Dan & Juan, Mike & Yan and Steve & Mei all likely will go to China in Late July or August.

I tried flychina.com just to fool around.

The price is much better than buying the ticket from travel agency and other web site.

Also the price at Qunar.com (qunar means where to go in Chinese) is very good.

Thanks for the information.

Steve

I hope RT prices come down because all I could find now, leaving late July and returning mid August (about 30 days) were tickets in the $1K range. OUCH!!! On top of that would be another flight in China plus return.

The ticket prices are high until sept 1st use Bookingbuddy.com and check tavelocity Hong Kong to San Fran or LA for $472.29 one way. Singapore airline $518.84 one way.

I was going to mention the Singapore Airlines deal. $1k is also good. I fly Cathay Pacific out of SFO and pay $1,200. That is direct to HK then train to GZ cuz the lay-over is like 10 hours. A friend flys Singapore Air often and says the service is good. Cathay Pacific is always excellent.

I might be going during this time period cuz I can tell my Fiancee is having mild freak-out.

In Beijing we used the Central City Hostel. Very good and VERY cheap. They have a bunch of eateries n the complex, bars, and are sooooo close to Tianamen Square and Forbidden City/shopping.
