Sorry, but you deserve what you get ! You were speeding quite a bit over the limit. The cop wasn't power-tripping. Maybe you should teach your wife how to respect the laws instead of making it out like the cops the bad guy. there's no excuse for going that much over the limit. Laws are in place for a reason.

BTW.... My husband is in law enforcement and I am proud of the job he does. He doesn't "power trip " as you call it. The Police Don't get to set "our Priorities" The government does. If you want that to change then do something about it. Contact your congressmen , become active in block watch, MADD etc...

Anyone in a position of authority over others is in a corrupt position--and therefore subject to power trips. No one joins the police because they want to fight crime. They join it because they enjoy the power it gives them over others. The right to break the law and enforce the law over others. The right to carry a fire arm and use it at the slightest transgression. The right to seize property for the flimsiest of evidence or suspicion. The right to coerce, plant evidence, and frame suspects. Every cop I have met was the type of person that thrives on controlling others. That's why suicide, domestic and child abuse in the law enforcement community is much greater than in other career fields.

WHAT?!?!?! There are plenty of police officers who have joined the police force simply to fight crime. These people put their lives on the line every day to protect those around them for not very much pay... Yes there are bad cops out there, but I would say that most of them are honest hard working people who just want to make a difference. And in return all they get is not much money and having to deal with a**holes like you who dont respect them.

Sterotype much???? I am sure you also find broad generalizations about other segments of the population to. It is very easy to generalize and in my opinion the easy way out so if you want to take the easy way out then fine that is your right. But I have a buddy who is a cop and he truly does want to help people. I actually road along with him and saw first hand what his day is like. It can be mind numbing boredem and yet he still has to keep an eye our for idiots doing better than 20miles over the limit rather than catching murders and rapists. If those who know better would make his job easier by not requiring him to take time out of his day to right stupid tickets he might actually have time to help people truly in need of his help. Think about every time a cop has to stop to right a ticket that might be the cause of one more real criminal getting away!!!

I feel sorry for you and anyone that has to learn about our society through your eyes.

Let me guess in your ride along with your buddy--oh yeah and I bet he always obeyed the speed limit, never roll-stopped a stop sign, or turned his lights on to jump a traffic light--except in emergency situations. So its okay for cops to break the law but not the rest of us? And why will he give out tickets--because law enforcement knows that 95% of cases never go to trial--they are pleaded out to nolo or guilty, no contest etc. They know that a speeding or other traffic violation is just money in the bank. Eventhough its a law that the police never follow themselves.

Plain and simple, everything you said about what the cops do could be justified in the line of duty where as you ripping 57 through a 35 is wreckless. I have met one cop who was power tripping and ten times as many who do not. Please to not use broad strokes to paint a group of people it shows ignorance and intolerance.

You are obviously close minded this topic so I will refrain from posting any more. Good luck.

My Polish husband got his first speeding ticket ..and it was for $180.00!! He was actually going the flow of traffic and the police pulled two cars over. He let the other one go..and gave my husband the ticket. My husband was so mad..I had to convince him to get back into the car and not chase after the policeman or even argue with him! hahah! It was horrible, but at the same time, I couldn't stop laughing!

Im from the UK and we have speed cameras all over the place and I will be the first to admit that I speed when I am on the motorway, but for the most part the police leave you alone unless you are driving dangerously. I have never been stopped by the police, until I went to america.

We were over on holiday last year visiting my future in laws and we were just driving along, not speeding and as far as I could see not doing anything wrong. The police pulled us over saying we were driving eratic made us get out of the car and sat us on the side of the road in handcuffs. They eventually let us go with no explanation for this bizare behaviour.

I was furious but my better half eventually calmed me down saying that if I came to america I would have to get used the police just pulling you over for no apparant reason. She has been pulled over several times with no apparant reason, maybe it is because she is african-american?

Anyway as much as I respect cops who do there job properly it does seem that some of the cops over there have nothing better to do that to abuse there power. I mean come on was there really any need to handcuff me.

I mean come on was there really any need to handcuff me.

After seeing footage of 5 (I think from memory) downing and handcuffing a 5 year old child throwing an age typical tantrum at school, nothing surprises me.

Yes its known as "driving while black." But you can also add "driving while mexican" too! As the power that law enforcement enjoys corrupts the police use racial profiling consistently.

I am glad I am not black or hispanic. I was polite with the officer and respectful, not stupid and not an ###-hole as some of these less polite posters in this thread have called me--but that's okay, they are the type that will believe the government and authority is always right, and make excuses for inappropriate behavior and always giving the police the benefit of the doubt. Well I have a lot of experience and have seen too many bad cops--and the "good" cops that some of you say exist are still corrupted--they do use the badge and patrol car to get away with crimes that the rest us would be in a great deal of trouble if we tried to do the same.

I have seen cops that killed their wife, commit acts of racism, plant evidence, moonlight while supposedly on patrol, take bribes, shake down gang members and foreigners, run burglary rings, commit murder, rape, false imprisonment, speed while not on an emergency call, tailgate or drive too closely, run red lights while not on an emergency, rob banks, steal police equipment and sell the equipment on Ebay, carry out the assignation of the new elected sheriff, shoot to kill without much provocation, seize property without warrant or due process, beat prisoners, sick K-9 on handcuffed suspects, mace and pepperspray prisoners for kicks, and harass female and minority officers.

That would be considered by some a case of racial profiling. Unfortunatley, it happens, and it's not going to get any better.
