High school transcripts from Morocco

My fiance didn't take advantage of going to college in Morocco...and at least once a month I ask him why not...to his annoyance. :D I really want him to take classes at a local community college when he gets here. (In my opinion, I think it will help him to get a decent job in the long run here) During my research, I find that most school want high school/college transcripts. When I ask Abdou about his transcripts from high school I can't seem to make him understand what I am talking about. I know he didn't go to an international school so I'm really not sure if they have the typical "transcript" that I am used to in the States.

My main question is this: if you SO started going to college in the US what documents did they get from Morocco if any.

Thanks in advance!!!

Tasha

They have grade slips of their grades every semester or year so he should have something and at least a high school diploma...I know my hubby has all of that. Good for you for encouraging him to go back to school, it will also help him with English, culture, etc. when he gets here inchallah. Where is Abdou from in Morocco?

Abdou is from Taza, Morocco. Thanks for the tip on the diploma ladies...I think I was having a duh moment! :o I hope that is enough. I'll ask him about his grade slips when I talk to him tomorrow.

Sara, other than the diploma and I assume taking the SATs was that all you needed to get your husband into college. Was it really that simple? Did he already have college course in Morocco or did he start fresh in the US? (Same for you Kenza)

He is going to a community college and he didnt need the SAT or the TOEFL or anything like that. He took in his diploma and proof of residency stuff. He did not attend any college in Morocco. and yes, it was really that simple, not a big deal at all :) he had to take an english and a math placement test just like any other new student.

Well my husband has already graduated university but sara is right, for community colleges, the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL aren't required. Just registration and possible placement tests and he will be good to go!

does your husband have the baccalaureate? Ahmed has a certificate saying he got the bac. That's like the diploma. It's really difficult, because like 60% of people in morocco who finish high school don't actually pass the test to get the bac. so it's possible your fiance finished high school but didn't actually "graduate" or achieve the bac. i'm not sure how a community college will look at that. it really sucks, because in the US, we say you've graduated HS if you successfully finish all your classes, and THEN, if you want to go to college, usually you take the SAT or the ACT. whereas in Morocco, it's the bac which allows you to enter college. and the govt tries to limit the number of people who are eligible (maybe cuz the public universities are free), so they don't let that many people pass the bac. so when we americans see that someone didn't get the bac, we think they didn't finish hs. which isn't true.

you'll have to check if he has the bac. if not, it would be good for him to have his transcripts, and I'm sure you could talk a community college into accepting that in lieu of a bac.

sorry if that's more info than you wanted.

good luck. i plan on ahmed going to community college asap when he gets here!

This makes me nervous. I don't know if he took the Baccalaureate or not. I'm getting a little worried about that. I need to call him and ask him...

Okay I'm back...I called him and we ended up talking for about 30 minutes. He did not take the Baccalaureate but he says that he has a diploma and he can get his grades from high school. So I hope that is enough. Sara, did you husband use a Bac certificate or an actual diploma? I am hoping it was the later. otherwise I'm not sure what we can do. Well...I hope to hear back from you guys especially you Sara.

Talk to you later,

Tasha

He can also take his GED (for free) when he gets here, after he gets his social security number. If you look around, you might even be able to find a place where he can take it in Spanish or French if he knows either of those (better than English).

Just a thought.

Good luck!

The institution that he intends to attend can send to his High School for the transcript if he does not have a physical diploma. My GC was received in the mail six days ago and I am now enrolled in school which begins next Monday May 25. The school did everything for me, all I had to do regarding the transcript and application forms was to fill them in online and e-sign them. After filling out the transcript request I faxed it back to them and they sent to my High School back in Jamaica. It was no hassle. They did everything to ensure that I received my grants and loan and my books were mailed to me and I am preparing for classes.

my husband did have his baccalaureate so we never had any of the transcripts or anything. my advice Tasha would be to have him bring whatever paperwork he can and if it is not acceptable then for sure just have him take the GED and that will work just fine :)

I've got a related question. My wife got a Bachelor's degree from Mohammed V university in Rabat, now she wants to go to graduate school here. Can she get her college transcripts by email/phone without having to physically be there? Or can a relative go there and get them for her?

my fiance went to some sort of vocational school as a trainee for 18 months and received his diploma, but he did not have his BAC, because in algeria it isnt required for you to get ur BAC but u can do what's called "stage" or here it's called trainee. Can this serve as the BAC requirement or high school diploma?
