Hello everybody:

Very happy to inform you all that I had a successful interview today for my N-400 based on 3 years of marriage to US citizen. My interview was at 12noon. I arrived at the office around 11:40am after taking a couple of extra of photos at Walgreens. Placed my interview letter in a box and waited at the lobby until 12 noon.

Then at 12, the adjudication officer popped up and asked me to go inside with him to his room. Before taking my seat, he had me sworn in. As I took my seat, I saw a thick file containing all my immigration applications and documents submitted throughout the last 4 years in front of him. He immediately proceeded to ask me questions from the N-400 application confirming the info on the application. No name change. Then came the part where there are bunch of yes yes or no no questions. He asked me if I had committed any crime for which I was not arrested. I had put yes in my application becos I had a speeding ticket. But today I answered NO to this question. He wrote down NO right next to my YES tick mark. Then he said seems like you have a traffic violation stated in your application. I said yes it is a speeding ticket. He said ok i see that here. Then continued with some more of YES YES or NO NO questions. Did not ask all those questions but just a sample of questions.

Then he had me sign the bottom portion of the last page of application. Then he printed me a sheet containing my name and other identifying details that will go on my naturalization certificate and asked me to verify the info and spelling, which I did in 5 seconds.

Then he said ok, we will do the exam now. Asked me 6 questions and wrote the answers on a test sheet:

1. One promise you make when you become a US citizen

2. Where is the State of Liberty?

3. Who is the governor of your state now?

4. What movement tried to end racial discrimination?

5. Name two US National Holidays

6. Who was the first US president

Then he asked me to read "Who lives in the White House?" and to write The President lives in the White House. Then he said you passed. Following that, he said we have the next oath ceremony on June 4th and I will print a sheet explaining the date and time. He asked do you have any other family members taking oath shortly. I said no. He said we ask that so that they can schedule oath together for families (what a nice gesture...). Then he gave me the oath schedule letter and said Congratulations! I said thank you very much and walked out of his office.

Throughout the interview, the officer was so relaxed and so nice. Never asked me one thing about evidence of marriage. I was done in 15 minutes.

Oh it feels so good to be over with the interview.

Good luck to everyone out there waiting for the interview.

Just curious. Did he give you a choice between the new and old tests? What test were the questions that you answered drawn from? Thanks!

I do not think you get the choice anymore between new and old one because the N400 was sent after october 2008. It's just the new test from now on. Exceptionally, some applicants who experienced a delay in the processing might get the choice, simply because they applied before the cut-off date.
