USCIS is overall excellent - how to compare - look at other countries' immigration systems - Costa Rica sucks big time; Colombia - doesn't provide any information and every process is subject to change and change retroactively - India - you need to feed everyone with $$$ (Rupees actually) to get anything done. Perhaps a few European nations and or Canada may be better at this but USA is pretty good and above all you can approach your congressmen to help you; in other countries they will laugh at you if you asked them to help you with their bureaucracy (I know my own first cousin - a Member of Parliament who laughed at my brother for help - this was in India!)

So, before you complaint too loudly - look at everything else involved and you may agree that it's better than DMV or IRS or SSA or Medicare or etc. etc. etc. Good Luck

I don't think that many people are happy with USCIS but many are satisfied. I was annoyed that they lost my medical for K1 and I had to get it dne again at my own personal expense. Apart from that I have not had any problems with USCIS. You want the process to be thorough and the IO's to be diligent because there are a lot of people that you do not want let in. However I just wish that the systems in place at USCIS meant fewer lost folders or evidence and a clear consistant application of the law. It needs work, as do all government agencies.

What I have found with many government departments is that it is very hard to lose your job for poor performance. You have to really suck and maybe even set fire to the whole office to lose a job. This breeds complacency and many take those jobs because they have good benefits and have job security.

Ok everyone. I think no one want to bring a "terrorist wife" or "terrorist husband" to the United States. In am grateful for the government protecting me, Well that is the primary job of the government to protect its citizens foreign and domestic from harm of anther country or enemy of the state.

I am not one to bash the government but the department of immigration has been under a lot of scrutiny lately by the Government itself. I love the the United States and would die to save the lives of my family and country men. I have served my country and proud to be an American. We have many enemies i know because i sat across enemy lines waiting for something to happen many nights to protect the freedom of the citizens of the United States. There is no better country to live in. With this said no bashing the government just the USCIS.

The USCIS have some wall of secrecy and does not processes petitions not in the order they say which is the "ORDER WE RECEIVE THEM IN". They cannot tell you where they are at on the screening of petitions and where you are at in that process. Visajourney has a system that will estimated time that your k1, K3 or other related from will be adjudicated. If Visajourney.com can supply this information, why couldn't the USCIS do something like this?

They have no technology (ie online submitted form) that would eliminate or help eliminate making mistakes. Actually the forms on the website that are downloaded could not be filled out without the aid of Visajourney.com examples. I could not find adequate instructions of one form (I-325). Thank God for Visajourney.com

I am not angry at the USCIS but I feel that since they are the only way to immigrate to the US they feel they do not have to REPORT to anyone. I think the word DISAPPOINTED is more appropriate. Understand they call us customers. If im a customer and had to wait 6 or 8 months for a simple form to be reviewed I WOULD WANT MY MONEY BACK but they have no competition and only report to the US Department of Homeland Security.

I hope since the President was a son of an immigrant to the US that he would mandate changes to help families that want to come together using the immigration process do so in a more EFFICIENT and OPEN manner. Bring down that wall of secrecy and let us see where we are in the process and estimate how long we have to wait and show us that the USCIS is working for its so call CUSTOMERS. I would love to see the USCIS be a well managed organization that works for the citizens of the United States.

GOD BLESS THE USA!

They process applications in roughly the order they are received. A file may be picked up and logged and an NOA1 sent but then it is in that IO's pile. Another IO may work faster or have less complicated cases so things don't and can't work in a strictly 1st come 1st served basis. The organization is too big and they deal with too many aplications to make it so.

I think what we also have to keep in mind is the immense, sprawling entity that is the (wonderful, and I mean that wholly and in all sincerity because I love the country as much as my Knight does) USA is bombarded by numerous visa applications in all forms. Those of us on VJ are just a small portion of wave after wave of immigrant applicants who want to move there, whether by K1, K3, or otherwise. There is a system in place which is vast and difficult to change because of all the new technology which has to be gradually implimented, like installing broadband into an old building. Maybe I'm only able to think this way now that I have, thank God, my visa at hand and that I know for sure I'm flying out.

I myself underwent a very difficult process, as many of us have, and I'm not going to say that I was any worse or better -- each person's journey, the agonizing lows and the sudden highs, can only be measured and understood by them and their partner alone. But I think what we do forget sometimes is that there are human beings who are running the system on the other end, and they're capable of making horrendous mistakes. Every petition they handle is unique, and let's not forget the thousands of cases of fraud. Sadly, this means that the people with the best and most truthful of intentions suffer. Look at Sara -- I hope and pray that things get resolved quickly for you, because it's not fair that it should happen to anybody, least of all someone who is actually genuine.

The system has to be foolproof so nobody can tamper with it -- I wish that there could be a way of achieving this without keeping so many people in the dark about where they are in the process, but it seems as though the system in place is designed as such to protect it, and us. Hopefully there will be changes in the future to ensure that it's much easier and more painless to get through to the point that you can step on American soil and know that you'll be calling it home, for yourself and your partner.

But they have been good to me and Knight, too; I have a security situation where I'm under police protection because of my family. The embassy promised they'd do their best to ensure I was out of AP quickly, because they knew I had a deadline to leave the country. Even though it was hard, they fulfilled that promise, even though I had every doubt they would. So they do listen, but again, it's down to the individuals who are running things. I know this isn't easy to accept or comprehend when you're still struggling through the process, but once you're on the other side, it will be so worth it. I can say that it has been, and I'll say it again when I do set my foot down on American soil and I'm throwing myself into Knight's arms.

With that said, I hope and pray that the process will become so much easier, and that everyone who's waiting will have their visas in hand soon.

Magpie.

Upon the mountain of that which would undo us, our banner shall fly highest.

Visajourney has a system that will estimated time that your k1, K3 or other related from will be adjudicated. If Visajourney.com can supply this information, why couldn't the USCIS do something like this?

The petitions go into the system in the order received. They don't come out the other end in that order. Some petitions take a lot longer than others, and they get shelved while the adjudicator works on others. Personally, I think that's the correct way to do it. Would you want your petition "on hold" waiting for someone else to respond to an RFE just so that their petition will get processed before yours?

They can't tell you where they are in screening petitions and where you are because it's impossible to say. The only thing they could tell is is what day they received the petitions that were just entering the system on a given day. Once they enter the system, every petition is different.

The timelines here on VJ are averages only. Some people get through faster. Some get through much slower. The average number doesn't give you any indication at all whether yours will be one of the faster or one of the slower ones.

Personally, I'm digging in for the long haul. I'm praying for the best, and preparing for the worst.

One thing they could do is make AOS approvals retroactive to the date of application. It doesn't seem fair that some people get approved months ahead of others just because of where they live. If they made the approval retroactive, then applicants wouldn't be penalized because their local DO happens to be really slow. I figure if Social Security can do it using Protected Filing Dates then why can't USCIS?

I really can't complain though. My wife's I-129F was approved a week after it was receipted. That made her wait for a K1 much shorter than it could have been.

I don't have any problem with the USCIS ... yet. We were approved in 98 days and it would have been sooner if it was not for a RFE that was just my not reading the instructions thoroughly.

I do have a problem with the NVC however. My case was delayed 50 day because ... Who knows. Whatever "additional processing" is, it should not take anywhere near 50 days. And everytime I called them they verified my phone number and email... and of course they don't notify you when you case is finally sent on.

All in all, the process has worked OK so far. The interview and AOS still to come ...

Anyone who receives their NA02 so soon is extremely fortunate & I wish the recipients happiness & luck in the next stage of the process.

But what really bugs me is the lack of organisation at USCIS. Some people say that case loads are processed in batches (relating to date received), others say not. Who really knows?

You would think that there would be a computer system in which received petitions are entered & from this, a report of 'old' cases would be flagged & investigated?? A prime example is Sara (Estadia) who has been waiting around 18 months for an approved petition!! You'd think that this would've been noticed there & looked into already!

It's just not right! I know these cases are few & far between on VJ, but we aren't ALL the petitions that go through USCIS. There could be lots more like Sara that are waiting this long!

I would bet that this is an expedite. They are hard to get and usually only for active military with orders to be deployed. Don't be upset by their expedite. If you were going to Afghanistan, wouldn't you want to be able to marry your love before you left??? If not military, it's for some other big reason and difficult to get without a really big reason. Thanks everyone for replying. Its good to here about good or bad experience and know that the system will work. As for Rose she should contact an attorney about compelling the USCIS to make a decision. A federal judge would not be to happy about her situation. Hey it is overwhelming, there is a system and it does work but it could use some enhancements. God bless you all and God bless the USA!
