You should get your Greencard within 60 days and your SSN within a few weeks.

You can not get a US Passport until you become a US Citizen.

thanks for correcting my knowledge

i was confused between green card and passport.

is the period six months or one year.during which one has to go back to usa as i mentioned above??

Why would you go through the whole process of getting a immigrant visa to the USA to then about turn and leave for an extended period of time?

As a LPR (greencard holder) you are meant to be living and working in the USA. You have to maintain a residence here in the US and even periods of less than 6 months can cause your status be be cancelled.

Please read this link http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD You do have responsiblities as a LPR and you must follow them if you wish to remain a LPR.

Then you have to delay your education. You cannot have both. One has to be sacrificed. The question is which one do you value more? (A lawyer may be consulted to discuss your case but the legal fees may be worth the cost of education in the US.

i think i dont have to sacrifice anything

because

i can go to america this summer in july and come back in september and my 7th semester is going to start in september too so i will stay in paksitan till my final semester ends in july or june

so i can return to america within one year.

is that a problem??

because i have heard of many ppl who are legal permanent residents of america but they are studying medical in paksitan because its so expensive in america and they go to usa every year to keep their status valid

Most people who do that usually stay longer before returning back. The problem there is returning back to the US. If in case you decide to do so, bring all necessary documents (transcripts, diploma, etc.) to show why you returned to your home country immediately after arriving in the US. Also, review guidelines in returning back. I wish you well in whatever decision you make.

I believe the OP is immigrating to the US on a F-4 immigrant visa (unlike K-1 & K-3 which are a non-immigrant visas) and is not required to do AOS (adjustment of status)

When you arrive at Dulles Airport, you will first go through immigration where you will hand the officer your packet you mentioned. They will most likely show you to a separate room where they will open the packet and take the documents that they need. They may ask a few questions (who petitioned for you... where will you stay...) They will stamp your passport and that should be it. You pick up your luggage, pass through customs and head to your destination.

*Welcome Letter - This letter welcomes you to the United States (keep this letter and envelop)

*Permanent Resident Card - this will arrive within a few weeks. This is also called your Green Card although it's not green :-)

* Social Security Card - If you checked on your DS230 to have them send your information to the Social Security Office, you must wait 3-4 weeks to receive your SS card. If you didn't check this option or the 3-4 time frame has past, you can go to your local Social Security office to get your Social Security card processed. You will need your birth certificate, Passport, Permanent Residence Card. There is no fee for this and it takes about 5-14 days to receive. You need a SS Number in order to obtain a job.

* Driver's License - You will need to take a drug and alcohol seminar and receive a certificate for this. you need to take the written and road tests as well. You need two documents for proof of residence. You can use your welcome letter if you have the envelop and the letter. You may also use bank statements, utility bills, tax documents

This isn't an exhaustive list but I hope it helps! Best of Luck!!
