Hello,

I have a general question. I know that no one here can tell me exactly how long it will take, obviously. But I just want to ask if it sounds reasonable to wait so long.

I filed in person, the I-130 on April 6th. I was approved on the spot, and was given package 3 to fill out and mail in. It included the DS 230 part I, and a checklist. I was supposed to send in the checklist when I obtained everything on there (which I already had). So I sent in the DS 230 I and the checklist, a few days later. Let's say around April 10th or so.

Since then, I have not heard or received anything from the embassy. I emailed them, and they said I will hear something (get an interview) within the next few months.

Does this sound reasonable? Can it really take that long? I wanted to mention, that when we were waiting at the embassy there was another married couple there for their interview. I asked how long it took them until they received their interview. They said it took a total of 2 months. They filed in the beginning of Feb, and were there for their interview on April 6th. Which means they would have gotten their letter of appointment about a month later (at the latest) since they mail the letter at least a month in advance. I'm quite sure that I haven't missed anything in the application, and our situation is similar to the couple at the embassy.

How long does it usually take for couples who do DCF?

I just feel sad, because I have to leave at the end of July to start school and my husband won't be able to come with me. He'll have to stay and wait. I felt so happy when I they told me that it only took them 2 months, and now we're just sitting here waiting, and it sucks.

Processing times vary between embassies/consulates

Ours took roughly 7 weeks from filing the I-130 to visa approval/visa in hand

I am curious as to how they approved an application on the spot. The Adam Walsh background check has to be performed before an approval can be issued, and the embassy cannot do the check, it has to be done in the US.

I have no idea, but that's how it happened. We had a "mini" interview with the officer, where he asked my husband questions about our relationship, where we met, etc. Then he said I approve your I-130 petition, and gave us packet 3, which included DS230I and the checklist. I received package 3 (AGAIN) through the mail, a few days later. Perhaps we are going through an adam walsh background check now as we speak, and until that goes through, then we'll get the interview letter? is that possible?

I would say the Adam Walsh check was complete when you received packet 3 in the mail.

At our I-130 appointment the consular officer said our documents were in order but they have to do the adam walsh check before they can approve it. Sounds like the consular officer there maybe got ahead of himself?

Anyway sounds like your visa journey is going fine.. they are probably reviewing your packet 3 at the moment and will schedule an interview with you once that is complete. But if you're anxious you could always send a polite email to them confirming that they received your packet 3, and asking how long the processing time for scheduling interviews currently is.

It took 2 months for us, but the lady at the embassy told us it wa going to be between 2 to 4 months.

Brazil took two months - filed the I-130 on March 2 and were approved at the final interview on May 15. However, we received the notice of the interview in the mail on May 12 - only 3 days before the date the interview was scheduled. The only reason we found out about the interview is that I emailed the Consulate to find out what was going on. I would suggest sending polite emails to find out what is going on.
