I think it's a pretty damn good picture, airbrushed or not.

Have we considered that she may be banking that by giving the press this shot, they'll leave her alone for long enough to get a bit of peace and quiet? You know, like if you give a whining child a candy bar, they'll behave whilst you do the rest of your grocery shopping...

Dudette, it just bugs me that you're giving her a pass because it's her "job" to be an attention #######. At least give her a pass because you like her albums or something, you know?

Not giving a pass for anything. I just do not see the point of knocking her for looking crappy one week, and still knocking her for looking airbrushed and polished the next.

Would I do what she does/has done? NO, absolutly not. But to say you dislike her merely for feeding an industry that exists because there is a consumer base for it-seems misplaced blame to me.

Just my opinion.

Is she an attention #######? Probably.I agree with you.

You have to admit that

1. There is ALOT of THAT ( attention whoring) going around ( and not just amongst famous people either)

2. That being an attention ####### is a requirement so-to-speak of the industry she is in.

3. Maybe her character is so flawed that even if she were not famous she would be doing some of these things? Maybe-who knows? We don't know- that's for sure. I am not sure anyone on here knows Britanny Spears that well to be able to offer that kind of an evaluation.

--Agree on the comment about giving a false idea of perfection to girls everywhere, BTW. But I do not feel that is entirely Britanny Spears fault. There is a market for it and the consumers are ultimatly to blame.

In any case if you're going single out Britney (already a has-been in her early 20's - usually when personal life overshadows career low-grade celebrity), you've got to do the same with pretty much every celebrity dating back to Marilyn Monroe, Kathryn Hepburn etc.

Perhaps the standards for celebrity have dropped these days I don't know - but its certainly true that its being instilled in kids (even up to my generation - middle to late 20's) that fame is something to aspire to. People have unrealistic expectations - living in a counterfeit world where everyone expects to be a movie actor or rock star without having the talent (or being prepared to do the work) to get there.

In a general sense celebrity worship is its own religion - especially when people are going out to get Jennifer Aniston's next haircut or botox injections, going to the gym to get 'rock hard abs' - most people do it not for themselves but for other people (because ultimately they care what other people think - a mark of generally low self esteem). Frances, I understand what you're saying. But for the sake of little girls everywhere, I really really loathe what she's doing. Same with all celebrities who go around parading their half naked bodies to the public in order to make some money.

I don't know where you aren't going to see that anymore though...except to keep little girls sheltered at home, which isn't the answer either. Is there too much exposure...yep...but I guess the best way to teach young girls to have a healthy respect for their bodies, and at the same time have stable self image is to just be frank with them...tell them that women (and men) do this, that it's not something you agree with, but most importantly to know that the women (and men) that we see in magazines and in film are not perfect...and that their self image should NOT come from that point of reference. They should learn early on, that how they are as human beings (how they behave), how they treat other people, how they practice their faith, etc., are the most important things in determing what kind of person they are. So much else is superficial, and we can only start with the girls in our own lives...children, nieces, cousins, grandkids, etc, by explaining and setting examples. Hollywood/celebs aren't going to change...but we can change how we respond. If we think someone is a skank, don't go to their movies, watch their programs, buys their albums...that's the best we can do.

I think another often overlooked area is to teach little boys & young men that it's not ok to look at women as only one thing....but in many societies men are given the green light to hoot, whistle, and fawn over "hotties"...that it's not just accepted that "all men do it so it must be alright"
