I am sure this has been asked before as some threads came up when I searched here, but I am looking for updated information: especially from those who recently have purchased health insurance plans for their SOs.

Is this site any good? http://www.nriol.com/insurance/short-term-insurance.html

Those that have purchased health insurance for their K-1 counterparts, what companies do you recommend/share your experiences???

I am a recent masters graduate, so I too need health insurance...(this will come with a F/T job, but I have another 2-3 months until I am ready to commit to one) and I am looking for something that will cover both of us (me and my fiance even after we get married until I am employed F/T).

Also, I have a friend who is pregnant and coming to the US on K-1 as well. She was asking what options her and her fiance could look into for maternity/health insurance coverage, so I told her I would ask here on VJ on her behalf. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance! :star:

How far along will she be when she arrives in the US? And does her fiance have medical insurance through his work?

In her first trimester and her fiance does not have insurane from work, he does contract IT work and it is up to him what insurance chooses to buy.

I already had Kaiser, so once we were married, I just added her to my coverage. They needed a SSN to start a medical record for her. Most policies, including employer plans, will allow you to add for a change of life, in this case, marriage.

As far as pregnancy coverage, that may be a little hard to find, once you are already pregnant. I know most policies with a health review ask for recent medical history, and that might be a reason to deny coverage for the pregnancy.

under HIPPA, pregnancy is not considered a pre-existing condition as long as the individual is transferring from a qualified health plan to another qualified health plan. An alien relocating to the USA may not qualify for that treatment.

YMMV
