[Kim] Hendren explained, "I don't use a teleprompter and occasionally I put my foot in my month." At the meeting, Hendren addressed the comments that Sen. Schumer made shortly before last week's meeting. Sen. Schumer, appearing on MSNBC's Rachael Maddow Show, said "The hard right, which still believes that when the Federal Government moves, we chop off its hands, still believes in the traditional values kind of arguments, in strong foreign policy, all that is over."

Hendren told me, "At the meeting I was attempting to explain that unlike Sen. Schumer, I believe in traditional values, like we used to see on 'The Andy Griffith Show.' I made the mistake of referring to Sen. Schumer as 'that Jew' and I should not have put it that way as this took away from what I was trying to say."

Hendren is a member of the Arkansas State Senate, and is currently a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate.

If he wins next year, Hendren will be able to tell "that Jew" all about the "traditional values" he saw on "The Andy Griffith Show."

Update: Hendred told the AP today, "When I referred to him as Jewish, it wasn't because I don't like Jewish people... I shouldn't have gotten into this Jewish business because it distracts from the issue."

Yeah, that's much better. Good thing Hendren clarified matters.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

 ...a witness said his right arm involuntarily went up in a salute to the Fuhrer when he said it.

:o

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

So this is any different than Jesse Jackson calling us Hymies?

Antisemitism is real.

Just as are homophobia, misogyny, and anti-black and anti-Hispanic racism.

It's latent, hidden below the surface. But it's out there. Occasionally some public figure gets caught saying out loud what they really think.

We've come a long way, but nowhere near far enough.

What was he trying to say? That back in the day men were men and a woman's place was in the home? (After all, the best present an older female could hope for was a set of 12 preserving jars) Or does he just like the chintz curtains?

Yep. It's hard to hide ones prejudice when you are public figure. There's no way he can rationalize why he called him, 'that Jew.' It was his bigotry showing its ugly head.

By the way, missed in the discussion so far is the original quote Schumer allegedly made:

"The hard right, which still believes that when the Federal Government moves, we chop off its hands, still believes in the traditional values kind of arguments, in strong foreign policy, all that is over."

I didn't hear Schumer say it, and it's one phrase out of context. But if it means what I think it does, I think that's pretty outrageous too!

####### Schumer - a "Strong foreign policy" is over? What are you trying to do, make the conservatives' argument for them, that Dems are gonna roll over on defense? Oh fer cryin' out loud. Talk about shooting yourself in both feet.

What I'm guessing he meant (and maybe even explained, in the full quote) .. is that the unilateralist "our way or the highway" foreign policy is over, in favor of a broader policy that combines diplomacy and negotiation along with military muscle. That is Obama doctrine. But that's very different from saying we're not pursuing a "strong" foreign policy.

It's always so much easier when you can buy votes by giving away potatoes:

The practice first came to light at a rally in March by the reformist former president Mohammad Khatami, near Shiraz, when sacks of spuds were handed out from trucks to supporters in a gesture organised by the local governor, who was appointed by Ahmadinejad...

The giveaway was denounced by Hassan Rowhani, who as Iran's former chief nuclear negotiator once addressed more strategic questions.

But perhaps the pithiest criticism came from a Karroubi adviser, Abbas Abdi, who said: "Why not onions? Onions are far more expensive than potatoes. If they really wanted to help, they would give away free onions."

Nope. Never heard of him, her, it. And by that comment, I probably never will again.
