Question about the I-34 form.

First of all forgive me if this has been asked or the info is on the site somewhere, if so i haven't been able to find it.

My question is about the amount of funds that need to the petitioner (my fiancee) needs to have for this to go through without a problem. The petitioner makes around $20,000 a year, and with the 2009 poverty guidelines 125% of the 14,570 for a two person household is $18,212. The petitioner has very little other assets in her name. Maybe a few thousand at the most.

So, my question is whether this case would require a sponsor? We're not yet up to this stage of our process but i wanted to get a better understanding before the time to fill out the I-134 came around.

If you meet the guidelines, then technically, you are ok.

However, each embassy looks at the entire finacial picture, and looks backwards/forwards to judge if the intending immigrant will become dependent on the government for assistance.

Depending on the embassy, you may need a co-sponsor, so you should have one lined up, just in case.

If the USICS Poverty Guidelines say $18,212 and she makes $20k then you're fine. If for some reason the CO asks how you will manage then the obvious answer is you will eventually get a job and you'll both contribute. Not that is any of their business anyway, but the numbers you show are more than ok to get your visa.
