You would put in the location if your not eligible for AOS in the states, so you need to put your home country's local American post.

Don't leave it blank, because if you don't put anything, if they have to pick - you will have no choice.

So put your home city, Japan. (of course, the city needs an consulate/embassy)

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Yes. Doesn't matter which you put, consulate/embassy, they tend to go to the main embassy in the country.

(Home city = the city you want to go use for the consulate/embassy if they have to use one)

It only matters if they choose not to do the AOS in the states, and then they need to know where to foward the package to (if the 485 is denied).

They are even careful to state that they can send it somewhere else, even if you put in something - but I think they try to get it ask close as they can.

Thank you for reply.

Yes - you may want to put Tokyo, Japan (that is where the embassy is?)
