WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Up to 200,000 people in the Wilkes-Barre area were ordered to evacuate their homes Wednesday because of rising water on the Susquehanna River, swelled by a record-breaking deluge that has killed at least 12 people across the Northeast.

Thousands more were ordered to leave their homes in New Jersey, New York and Maryland. Rescue helicopters plucked residents from rooftops as rivers and streams surged over their banks, washed out roads and bridges, and cut off villages in some of the worst flooding in the region in decades, with more rain in the forecast for the rest of the week.........

I attempted to walk down to the river tonight but the city has everything blocked off, its pretty bad, im up far enough that things should be ok for me (crossing fingers)

Saw some pictures in the Newspaper, I need to call my mom back in PA. dad lives near Trenton/Cherry Hill NJ.

They are comparing it to the Hurricane Agnes back in 72. I remember those rains, ran around in it in my swimsuit and had a great time . I had just graduated from Kindergarten.

Wish you could truck some of the flood waters here to the desert.. our rains are trying to start, but it's still really dry!!!!

it totally sucks. hubby had to find a new route to work because lincoln and kelly drive were shut down. our apartment is fine because we are a good few miles from the river. i haven't been further into the city today to see much else. but the news reports are horrible-looking. i hope that it doesn't mess up july 4th celebrations that are going on this weekend and all next week. quite a few businesses have alot of clean-up to do so.

We had a houseguest last night from the closed-off town of Yardley, PA. His house is not flooded (thank-goodness) but they would not let him into the neighborhood (about a half mile from the river.) The creek near us crested a day before yesterday and roads were closed but have reopened. We are hoping for no more rain (which is predicted).

we took a stroll yesterday to go and view the delaware river! my oh my is all i can say!!!!!!!!!!!!! silly me forgot to take pics though!!!

we are high enough on ground that we haven't, nor will be affected in the slighest ... but it is crazy to see nature in full effect!

Had off work for two days..........................our corporate offices were trashed(courteousy of the schukyll river).

feel so bad for the people that had damage to their homes but I really enjoyed being out of work. There is so much damage to the region-it is sad

WOW !! I used to live just up the hill from the river in Wilkes-Barre!

Last year just before I left the floodings came to the bottom part of Wilkes-Barre and many had losses or damages - was a shame to walk down the road the week after to see all their sodden furniture and stuff ruined and waiting to be picked up to be dumped!

We have a very good friend who lives there in Wilkes-Barre but is up high! He and his family lost their home in the 72 flooding and he still suffers nightmares about it now. He says he remembers him and his brother working all night with hundreds of others putting sandbags round the river, and them then running away when they realised it was not going to work. Houses were covering up to the attics!!!

So glad that I lived up the hill - I think that would have just been the icing on the cake if we had been affected by any flooding!!! not!

Hope all are okay and things get back to normal soon, whatever normal is in Wilkes-Barre!!

Delaware is going down fast in the NY area. I'd never seen anything like it. I crossed one river just before they closed the bridge, and the water was almost up to the bridge. Freaky.

Sad about that 15 year old girl in Sullivan county who was killed.
