  1. 1. For Those Who Are Not Black, What is the Likelihood of you Getting Your Haircut in Barber Shop that is Owned and Operated By Blacks?

    • It makes no difference to me.

    • I'd prefer another Barber Shop but would go there if there wasn't any other barber shop.

    • I'd just wait and go somewhere else.

It does and it doesn't. You might not be racist, but the environment in the shop might be. Of course if might not be, but if it was, and you were treated like a piece of ####### based purely on the fact that you were not of the African American persausion, one would assume you wouldn't be going back in a hurry, right?

I went to a barber shop one time by myself in Detroit when I was (I can't remember, maybe 19 years old?) for a haircut. It was the most uncomfortable, humiliating experience out of all the times I've ever gotten my hair cut. This place was in the middle of the ghetto on a hot summer day. The barber shop was small, not one non-black person in the shop, behind the counter they were playing X-Box (not that that is a bad thing but I've never encountered this at any of the "hair salons" I've been to). The barbers were ghetto as hell. The conversations I overheard were very obscene and I'll just leave it at that. I stuck out like a sore thumb and felt really out of place. When I asked the barber how much it was (cause I had no idea) he lied to me and told me a higher price. When I went to pay the owner he was like it's only X amount. I can't remember the exact prices it was so long ago but I think the barber tried to charge me an extra $5. I felt like I time traveled back 60 or so years ago and was living in the deep south and entered a segregated barber shop. It was terrible.

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

You can thank your lucky Elvis crucifix you weren't getting your hair cut down there on the day the Malice Green verdict was about to be announced.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I don't know exactly when I went for a "taper" but I have it narrowed down to between 2003 and 2005 ;)

This actually happened to me too.

I was in a unfamiliar city and needed a haircut, went into what seemed like an average barber-shop (and I guess it was).

Sure enough, I was the only white person in there, felt a little awkward to turn around and walk back out so I just asked the lady if she cut White peoples hair much? She said "I have to learn to cut all types of hair at the school".

Well that didn't sound like a lot of experience but what else could I do, I went ahead and let her cut my hair.

She did a so-so job but Right away I knew she was not cutting like a typical barber would.

I actually got another haircut shortly there after.

For me it had nothing to do with the barbers race (had plenty of Black barbers in the military) and every thing to do with the experience. Black & white peoples hair are worlds apart, if someone only cuts one type, day in and day out, they might not do so well on the other.

You walk by and notice all the barbers are black. Even the patrons.

That is different question than the poll question. It would depend on the neighborhood, and how confident I feel walking in that door.

To add, one barbershop I did go to for years was owned by a black man, but the barber I used was full blooded Miwok.

Well to me a barber shop means for men...but anyway whether it's a barber shop or salon, it doesn't matter to me what the color of the people who own it/run it/go to it are. I would want to know whether they can do the kind of thing I want. Though my friend who is a hairstylist has been cutting my hair for years, so I doubt I'd ever run into this situation, lol. About how to know who owns and runs it, sometimes you can just know.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
