Seems IIRC, Obamas former church had some "list" in which (among other things) members agreed to do business with Blacks first. I read it right off their website way back when.

Since the lady in the story is from Chicago, it's possible Rev Wright is her Paster too.

Well,I guess we don't have to worry about you coming to shop a a minority owned business, especially a black one.

May 7,2007-USCIS received I-129f
July 24,2007-NOA1 was received
April 21,2008-K-1 visa denied.
June 3,2008-waiver filed at US Consalate in Panama
The interview went well, they told him it will take another 6 months for them to adjudicate the waiver
March 3,2009-US Consulate claims they have no record of our December visit, nor Manuel's interview
March 27,2009-Manuel returned to the consulate for another interrogation(because they forgot about December's interview),and they were really rude !
April 3,2009-US Counsalate asks for more court documents that no longer exist !
June 1,2009-Manuel and I go back to the US consalate AGAIN to give them a letter from the court in Colon along with documents I already gave them last year.I was surprised to see they had two thick files for his case !

June 15,2010-They called Manuel in to take his fingerprints again, still no decision on his case!
June 22,2010-WAIVER APPROVED at 5:00pm

There's nothing wrong with supporting local businesses in your local community.

It is a bit strange (to me) to drive miles out of your way to do it though.

That said there are plenty of people who don't mind doing it to shop at high-end grocery stores like Trader Joe's or Whole Foods.

Each to his own. It doesn't really serve any purpose to judge another's consumer choices, strange as they might be.

Trader Joe's is not high end...

When my wife first came to the US last year, she thought Wal-Mart was high end. She couldn't believe that they sell sandwich the size of an adult leg who is 6 feet tall for approximately 3 dollars. (Wal-Mart Super Center)

eric is selling himself at wal-mart?

As a kid, my parents told me Macy's was for rich people. We did all our clothes shopping at K Mart and Penney's.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Don't see how you came to that conclusion.

..... Unless you are confusing me with Obama :)

Aw $hit.

I read the original article wrong. I thought it was about business owners catering to one group. :P

No, it was someone deciding where and who to buy from... imagine that!!! How dare they :P

Actually Not

Maggie Anderson said. "It's like, my people have been here 400 years and we don't even have a Walgreens to show for it." Walgreens is traded on the stock market I am sure many different ethnicities own shares of this stock so they are owners as much as anyone else can own a Walgreens.

Nonetheless, they're hoping to expand the endeavor beyond their Chicago home. They have decided to start a MOVEMENT not just "someone deciding where and who to buy from"

Plans are under way to track spending among supporters nationwide and build a national database of quality black businesses. The first affiliate chapter has been launched in Atlanta, and the couple has established a foundation to raise funds for black businesses and an annual convention. The FIRST affiliate chapter has been launched....this is racism no matter how u look at it...I own a business I am white/caucasian if I said I only served white/caucasians that is racism HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT it is trying to get a certain group of people namely blacks to buy from black only businesses

Comments from article:

Lewis Peeples, 45, lives in a black neighborhood in southwest Atlanta but didn't think to spend his money with black businesses until a friend told him about the project.

"So often, we make purchases and decisions and aren't even mindful that there is a a need to support our own businesses," said Peeples. "Now, I'm reaching out and making sure I know that I have an option when I look to make a purchase."

Dallas Smith, who owns a commercial real estate firm in Atlanta, said mainstream retailers have undervalued black consumers. He lives in a black neighborhood in southwest Atlanta, where he tries to dine at black restaurants. He lamented the lack of quality businesses catering to black customers and said blacks should appreciate such businesses more.

"The response has been so huge," Maggie Anderson said. "We think so much can come out of this. We're in movement-making mode now."

You can call it what u like but this couple is trying to start a movement among black individuals to buy only from black businesses, and if a white couple did this it would be called RACISM!...period.

again, nowhere in the article does it say these businesses owned by black people only serve black people...
