Surely, what individuals do, is what individuals do. Unless there is a context within which a ruling class or elite dictate the terms of commerce then the influence of an individual is pretty much moot, no matter what the motivation.

Sure and you are the praline center. Meanwhile, seriously, unless there is an outside pressure or influence, then the actions of individuals are really inconsequential. I am sure daily people make decisions to buy or not to buy based on all kinds of prejudice, but so what?

My friend worked in the hospital this summer and had one lady who refused to be discharged by anyone other than the one black doctor that was on call at the moment. It took her an extra 3-4 hours because she wouldn't let the indian doctor who was available discharge her. I can see the point of supporting businesses that you would like to see flourish (why I try to buy local as much as I can) but I think something like that is taking it too far. Oh well, to each their own.

I agree with you. To each his own, but let's be realistic. Charles is right...if whites (or any other race) did this people would complain. I am all for supporting businesses that are local or mom-and-pop, etc, but by taking it to the extreme, then I think it borders on absurd.

i'm glad someone realizes it finally.

Its certainly a novel idea - but practically its ridiculous. You can't very well have your own autonomous economy in a multicultural, capitalist society.

Besides, if a black owned business is to survive during economically lean times, it has to offer 'value' and not just the opportunity to buy black.

Its certainly a novel idea

It's not that novel. Farrakhan has espoused this for a long time.

It's not at all novel. Black people I knew growing up did this, but not by choice. It was because of segregation.

For once, I agree with charles.

i'll mark my calendar.

I'll alert the media

People can do whatever they want but at the end of the day, those two numpty's are just hurting themselves. 14 miles to the grocery store? getting pi$$ed off because she cannot get some of the things she wants? If I were the store 14 miles away, I would hike my prices way up.
