Well, I don't really give a $hit. I just think it's a waste of time and resource to teach this at such a young age. Plus, I dislike how society won't let kids be kids. When I was a kid, all I cared about was doing my homework, Transformers, ThunderCats and He-Man.

Maybe that's why you were bullied? :jest:

I've heard he used to parade the hallways dressed like this:

Damn straight. :D

no, that is called no child left behind.. where they blame the teacher for not 'teaching correctly' isntead of realizing the dumb@ssery of some students who really don't deserve to be there.. basically u have to pass your students, if not, the teachers are to blame..

Ok, teacher here *raises hand* to address this topic:

Teaching young children (say K - 5) about defeating stereotypes (all of them...not just sexuality-related) is a GOOD thing. Tolerance/acceptance/whatever-you-want-to-call-it is a good thing. Just like teaching students to respect other cultures and races is a good thing.

As far as talking more specifically about sex-related issues, that is something that should wait and be discussed in the appropriate class - sex-ed, health, etc.

Now, as to the NCLB ridiculousness, all that did was dumb down education to the point where teachers don't get to teach their subject, but rather they teach to a state mandated standardized test. Don't blame the teachers, though there are crappy ones out there, but blame the people who instituted this act and who think teachers should teach to the lowest common denominator in their classrooms.

I don't much care what's taught in schools.

What bothers me is that the parent(s), as the legal and moral guardian(s) of the child(ren) are allowed the right to opt their child out of attending that particular class (or, indeed, any class they feel is either detrimental or untimely). If that comes with a proviso that the parent must notify the school that such an issue has been addressed with the child, fair enough, but I would certainly expect any education authority to accept that parents generally know their child(ren) considerably better than a teacher in terms of emotional/psychological development and understanding and have the right for the school NOT to cause additional problems and issues for the parents to deal with at home.

Are the schools going to issue information packs to parents prior to presenting to the children, so they are aware of what questions may crop up and how to answer them? I very much doubt it, but that's the difference between beneficial and responsible education and pushing minority interests onto the general public. I have nothing against the LGBT or any other minority community, but as far as I'm concerned Alameda County needs to look at it's demographic and educate appropriately.

I like to think of it as good parenting and basic human rights. The state doesn't have the right to raise your child(ren) and neither should it bear the responsibility of helping a child develop relationships.

It would be interesting to know what the proposal is for home-schooled children. :)

and somebody doesn't know about history..

Santa Anna was already exiled from the country when he had the smart idea of attacking the Alamo .. so, it was just his crazy @ss doing that..

So General Anna's army had no Mexican army uniforms or just went naked into battle? He didn't do it alone.

"In 1854 a junta of liberals -- including an up-and-coming young politico named Benito Juárez -- drove him out of office and into exile."

The Battle of the Alamo was in 1836 not 1854. Apparently, they teach more about gay tolerance in Mexico than Mexican history.

actually, i think you're referring to the battle of san jacinto, which mexico lost (and badly).

Lets be honest, this is not about "Bullying" at this young age, this is about reaching young kids with a positive presentation of Homosexuality.

If you believe in this sort of thing, fine, pay for it yourself and start a private school where you can spend lots of classroom time on these important issues, as for me I object to tax dollars being spent for this kind of propaganda.

In fact, it seems obscene that while the majority of people view Homosexuality as a over all negative thing.... these same peoples tax dollars are being spent to teach their kids that making judgments about such actions are bad.

I just fail to see why one has to get into all this **-talk to teach kids bullying behavior is wrong.

Do they have a whole list of possible family situations which might come up for ridicule by kids on the playground?

No it isn't. At least not in the insidious way you mean.

To be fair, that was happening long before NCLB ever occurred. I was in high school during the 1990s and the classes were mostly geared around whatever was necessary for the SAT/ACT.

Ahh, yes... it is simply to put a positive message out to young children when they are the most impressionable.

I've posts the vids of what happens when Gay marriage is legal and the door is open wide for thsi sort of brainwashing.

Here, I will post them again.

It's one thing to debate if it's good or "Insidious"... it's another to deny it's taking place.

Get real.
