It's a little too far for you if you are planning to go to Niagra but keep Montreal in mind for another trip to Canada. This is a great city with LOADS of stuff to do.

Downtown, the Old Port with its cobblestone streets, MANY restaurants from about any nationality you can think of, Mont Royal, museums....you name it, we have it.

I'm going to miss Montreal SO MUCH when i move down to Florida. But I'll be heading back here every chance I can get.

Other places to visit are Edmonton (about 4 hours drive north of Calgary) and Vancouver (on Pacific coast).

Hehehe hugglebuggles - you can call me older, if you like - I'll be 54 next month. What other wineries do you remember being in the area now besides Chateau Des Charmes and Brights? I always enjoyed doing the winery tours, too, so you might want to look into one or two of those as well, Brokensmile - they are right there and very interesting - plus you get to sample different types of wines, if you are interested. (Oh, I miss Chateau Des Charmes wines!) Niagara On The Lake is often used as the backdrop for a lot of movies - I remember when I lived near by they filmed "The Dead Zone" in Niagara On The Lake.

A lot of my friends like going there too... I don't know, It's a nice place to visit, but the excitement level is pretty low (at least for me). I've never actually done a wine tour before... I never thought of it being an exciting experience, but now that I think about it, it would probably be kinda neat! So I can't help you there... I'll ask my friend Laura, she's a wino with the spirit of a 65 year old

Toronto... Not for me. Its to big and there's just to many people! I try to like it but whenever I go there I get lost and confused and end up doing nothing because I don't know where I am or where to go  Then I end up shopping and spend wayyyy to much money. Toronto is good for that! I'm planning a trip there sometime this month so maybe i'll listen to some of the recommendations in this thread. My friend lives downtown and he's always bugging me to come and visit... His apartment is amazing, its in the Manulife financial building? I think that's right.

Kathryn,

I love Niagara-on-the-Lake too. I used to go every year, stay in one of their vintage inns and go to a few plays. I'll have to start taking Phil there every few years. I miss it.

These places are truly beautiful.

I'm from Saskatchewan!

I just noticed that the OP's local office is St. Paul, MN. You had said that you wouldn't like to go somewhere that is too "crowded." Well Saskatchewan and Manitoba are great options. Both provinces have great provincial parks to camp, and cities like Winnipeg, Regina or Saskatoon are not too big and easy to find your way around.

I'm in Vancouver! It's a great city (how's that for non-descriptive?) and if you're looking to go somewhere a little less crowded, Victoria is good too. I like their downtown a lot better than Vancouver, but mostly because there are far fewer pedestrians.

By the way... Trailmix? My wife asked me to tell you the following: "Edmonton kicks Calgary's a$$." :P

Warning ... :ot:

BlackHawks just defeated both Calgary and Vancouver on their way to Western Conference Finals.

Given that I grew up i Ottawa, lived years in Toronto and now reside in Chicago, and am a dual US/Can citizen I don't even know who to root for in contests like that! Do I cheer for my (current) hometown Black Hawks? Or do I stick up for the Canadian team (Flames, Canucks) in any US vs. Canada competition? Or do I just ignore the whole subject and focus on baseball? Oh no... Cubs... Whitesox... or my beloved Jays....

I know the dilemma well!! I will always love the Leafs as my #1, but my fiance's a huge Avs fan so I've adopted them as my second favorite. They are in different conferences, so it really works! Maybe one day they'll play each other in the cup final and i'll have to choose... riiiiiiight!
