Am assuming you have to file an I-693 like most of us had to do regarless of how you are bringing a person here. Has to be done by a USCIS approved doctor and in my own experience on this, some clinics or doctors want to do a pile of tests not even called for by the I-693 that can run up one heck of a bill. Health insurance normally doesn't cover this expense so out of pocket. To me that was the most troublesome form to have filled out with the first decision whether to have that done here or in the former country, then finding an approved USCIS doctor and getting quotes. I saved some by having our county health departement doing whatever lab tests they could do at far more reasonable prices, after all my tax dollar is supporting them as well and finding a doctor that will accept these results. So I called every USCIS approved doctor to get quotations ranging form 600 to over 5,000 bucks per person, I had two to deal with within a 350 mile radius of my home that I figured we could do within one very long day. I filled out the top section of the I-693 myself with Acrobat and triple checked it for accuracy, ever try to read a doctors handwriting. Also had my wife bring all of her medical records, the key points are communiable diseases with all of their shot and vaccination records, these had to be translated into English for our doctor.

The doctor gave us a sealed envelop with the filled out I-693 in it for each person, but did give us a hint that everything was okay. In reading the I-693, seems that your immigrant can have every known communicable disease known to mankind, including that dreaded HIV, but will still be admitted if they agree to counseling.

Can't never forget the I-693 experience that was six years ago for us, was the most troubling, some doctors were scheduling appointments six months in advance, with no way to meet the imposed time limits. With the help of God or whatever, did find a good reasonable USCIS approved doctor, was 300 miles from us, and had to make three trips to complete the exams. But it was approved. Also good to know my wife and daughter are healthy with no diseases of anykind.

Made me wonder when a USC marries a USC why they don't have these tests, one could have HIV or some other nasty disease, seems like that should also be a strong part of a marriage license.

My husband just had his medical interview at Chennai on Friday May, 9 2009. If you get to the lab by 8am or 9am, you can get the report the same day. My husband was at lab at 7am. He was able to get his lab done in the morning and get his doctor visit done in the evening. He want with Dr. Sanjay John. You want to call the doctor ahead of time to get appointment. Lab cost was Rs. 920 for x-ray test and HIV blood test. He was given 3 shots by Dr. John (Tdap, MMR, and Influenza) for fee of 3000Rs. Additionally, Dr. John's fee is Rs. 600.

so when was your husband interview? what is the minimum required days to have medical and go for interview? is that 3 days? or so ?

because my mom is going from different state and she is old and I'm bit concern about heat in India.

is that easy smooth process or hard?

also, can you please me which hotel to take that covers in a short distance Lab/Doctor visit and US Consulate?

thanks for reply.

Nick, isn't I-693 a reference for immigration medical done in US?

The OP is asking about such abroad.

I thought (based on my own experience @ Montreal) that the lab-testing was integral part of the medical appointment, that's why they have a delay to give report afterwords.
