Hello,

I received an RFE for the I-693A Supplement paperwork on my wife's AOS file. I'm really confused on why I would get an RFE for the I-693A form, I thought we followed all the steps. I'm going to write down the steps that we took and hopefully someone can tell me where I went wrong.

(First our AOS case is based on a K-1 visa)

- According to the instruction if you came in on a K-1 visa you only need to submit an I-693A supplemental form.

- We located a Civil Surgeon from the USCIS website and he filled out & signed our I-693A supplemental. They gave it to us in a sealed envelope, but when I submitted our AOS package I opened up the envelope to include the I-693A form in our package (Were we not suppose to open the envelope? was it suppose to be sent in the sealed envelope?)

- We only submitted the I-693A form, we did not submit a copy of her immunization shots that she received when she received her physical for her K-1 visa (The I-693A form clearly shows all her immunization shot).

The only other thing I'm confuse about is that the RFE letter is for both the regular I-693 form and the I-693A form. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought you only needed to submit the I-693A form if you entered as a K-1 visa holder.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, those RFE letters are really vague and do not tell you specifically what they are looking for......not very helpful at all.

Thank you,

Ricardo

The envelope is not supposed to be opened at all.. They are probably telling you that you need to go get another sealed envelope from the CS.

I'd give the CS office a call, explain what happened and see if they'll give it to you again sealed.. and submit that. (Don't forget to get your own copy if you don't already have one).

I'd say the opening is the problem, too. The CS I visited gave me the I-693A in an ENORMOUS envelope covered in what must have been about three miles of red warning tape. We couldn't have opened it if we'd wanted to. :)

Don't worry - just get another copy, plus an explanatory cover letter sent back ASAP. Seriously, there are so many ways to trip up, I swear the USCIS submissions process is booby-trapped.

And you're right - you DO only need to send the vaccination supplement as a K-1 holder, providing the medical you had as part of the K-1 visa application was less than a year ago.

Good luck,

Jim
