About the immigration green card lottery, but you have to pay to join it, seems fishy to me, anyone know anything about it?

The lottery itself is real - but the scam comes in anyone trying to persuade you that if they fill in the forms for you, your chances of success increase. Well apart from the logical filling in the form correctly part.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

usagc.org website is a private entity and is not a governmental agency

You are paying a company to deal with an application for the greencard lottery. Just like there are immigration sites where you can pay for them to deal with your application for a K1, K3, CR-1 etc.

But it is not a Government Agency.

From the DOS website

Was trying to find a faster means of getting my wife's son here, unmarried, over 21, he didn't want to come with his sister, but times have changed. A petition from my wife as a USC now would take eight years according to the current time lines. And already too late for the 2010 official lottery.

Thanks for the information, no, I did not give them my CC number, but am learning something about the lottery. Do they even post the odds of winning someplace?

It will depend on the number of applicants. There is a set number of places, so the odds of one gaining a place will be dependent on the number of people competing for each place.

Google? Why didn't I think of that? On the average odds are one in one hundred you may be chosen, but can be much greater or less depending on which country you are from. This will take a lot more googleing.

Step son does have an advanced degree, may stand a better chance if a US employer sponsors him.

That's the most certain route. The lottery is what it says, numbers pulled out of a metaphorical hat :)

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
