Hi all

I havent filed yet waiting on my divorce papers (the final papers) Anyway i was wondering what will be needed for my boo to bring his 3yr old son here with him. The mom is still living but him and his mom has been raising the baby boy without the boys mom. Should he go ahead and get the baby a passport as he is getting all the things i need from him. What else does nigeria require please? If this is the wrong place or a wrong question please forgive. Trying to get everything in order.

I would start by gathering as much evidence as possible (i.e. photos of you two together, phone records, etc.) plane tickets, boarding passes, make sure your income will be sufficient to sponser him, there's so much that you can be doing now to prepare for what's yet to come. You'll find these posts very helpful on your journey, dont know much about bringing children, i would make sure that he has sole legal guardianship, and by all means get him a passport. God bless

I don't know about Nigeria specific rules, but the baby will definitely need a passport, and the mother will need to give consent for the child to leave the country (usually by notarised document). I have also heard of instances in Asian and African countries where a DNA test was required to prove the child is biologically the fiance's. The visa the baby will need is a K2 (child of a K1).

I wouldn't worry about a DNA test, unless it is requested. You will need to show that you have an income that is 125% of the poverty guideline for at least 3 people (you, SO, his son) + you kids if you have any.

Yes they are. Don't get it done unless the consulate requests it though.

Yes, you should wait until the consulate requests it because they will give you a list of approved facilities that are authorized to perform the test. Sort of quality control, or else people could show up with falsified DNA tests. If you do it before, they will make you repeat the test at a facility that they have approved. Its a similar process to having a medical.
