HEALTH CARE UNDER FRENCH NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE

Several elements of the French health system - the predominance of office-based medical practice, the mix of private and public hospitals, the use of patient cost sharing, direct payment of physicians by patients, and financing derived from payroll taxes - closely resemble aspects of the U.S. health system. There are four major differences between the two systems: the French system covers more than 99 percent of the population; the prices of health services in France are lower than in the United States; the volume of most services is higher than in the United States; and French health care spending per capita is lower than in the United States. Recently enacted and proposed reforms in France likely will strengthen existing health spending targets and utilization controls.

Can there be another, better reason to not want to adopt it (or its equivalent) in the US? It would have to be the 'FREEDOM' system of health care :)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

doesn't that pretty much tell you whats wrong w/ US healthcare? the gov't needed to step in & on the toes of the medical industry. not keep letting them rip everyone off & blame the insurance industry.

That's easy. I'll take the American system with a side of fries please.

With or without mayo? :P

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

SMOKE is right. Again.

Of course, there is a component of those costs that are associated with the cost of doing business with a number of insurance companies. Uniformity in how they operate would be very helpful.

A small GP practice near where I live employs about half a dozen people to run the office and handle the billing.

My GP in the UK had one receptionist.

Differences in property rates / rents aside - Its a fair bet who has the higher overheads. But I can't imagine having to comply to the standards of several different monolithic bureaucracies helps matters (for example, having expense claims rejected because they were missing the required TPS cover sheet, Form 91823737F was incomplete and Form AJH421201!!!E wasn't signed).
