Hi,

Please respond asap if you can. Here's the low-down: my Mexican fiance is going tomorrow to get his passport. He can choose either a 5 or 10 year passport. He emailed me today saying he was going to get a 5 year passport. I'm inclined to say that he would be safer getting a 10 year passport. Our K1 was approved in California and has arrived at the consulate in Mexico. We're going to go for the interview the first week of August. So, I need to call him TONIGHT before he leaves to get the passport. What do you recommend, considering the whole K1/adjusting of status/naturalization process, 5 or 10 years?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR RESPONSES! :D

He can get 1, 5 or 10. I had my fiance get 5 because it's easy to renew in the US at the Mexican consulate. It doesn't make much of a difference right now - he only needs one with 6 months left on it for the interview. But it would probably make his life easier down the road if he doesn't have to worry about renewing it for another 10 years! Make sure he has everything he needs when he goes - it's a real pain in Mexico to get one there and can truly take all day. If he has internet access, tell him to read this site tonight to be prepared: http://www.sre.gob.mx/pasaportes/
