I am divorced and my fiancees parents don't know it. He doesn't want to tell them. Will they ask us at the interview in Delhi if his parents know about my divorce? Will they try to confirm that his parents know/don't know? How bad is it if he doesn't tell his parents (for the purpose of the visa)?

Thank you!

My opinion is it is a personal matter if your finace doesn't want his parents to know you are divorced. I know how it is a very sensitive issue in India, culturally speaking. Anyway, often in India they ask in the interview if the parents approve of the match. I have never heard of them asking whether the parents know of a divorce or not. They might ask your fiance about the details so make sure he knows things like how long you were married before, why you divorced and when, etc. Don't worry because the Consulate will not contact his parents and ask about anything.

I agree with ELW...we just went through our interview in Delhi and they did ask my fiancee questions about my divorce, like why we waited to get engaged, why did my marriage not work, but they never asked if his family knew I was divorced (his family did know) or never followed up with his family. As ELW said though...make sure he knows each detail and is confident in his answers. They will ask detailed questions of pretty much the whole timeline of your relationship!

Hi freinds..

Just now read the post and got a little concerned..what type of questions they may ask?

Will they look into the case with suspicion?

What all questions are expected regarding divorced petitioner?

We just applied for CR1 and its early to ask interview questions but just want to be prepared.

Any help wd be appreciated

Thanks

Hi H&A,

We went through K-1 so I'm not 100% sure if they will ask the same questions, but they asked my fiance for the timeline of our relationship (and me too...I was there with him for the interview so they interviewed us both). In talking about our timeline they asked him why we didn't get engaged sooner. He said that I was divorced and needed to settle some property issues (I was living over there at the time and couldn't sell joint property from over there), and he asked him if I had kids . He said no, and the interviewer went on asking him more about our relationship. The interviewer wanted very specific details of our relationship so make sure that your SO has all the specifics...knows your family, can identify them in pictures...can tell them specifically how you met, where you work, where you live and even things like where you went out on dates if you did.

It was not a horrible interview compared to what I thought it would be, but Delhi is a tougher consulate so you need to be overly prepared. As long as you have all the details then you should be just fine!

I agree with ELW and Moksha. My wife was asked a few questions about me, and then about my brother and father during the interview. The goal is to prove the relationship is bonafide and that your spouse knows information not only about you but other family members as well.

hi,

for the CR1 they really ask you in the eye after looking at the pictures , how many people were there, any invites copies, bills and all the stuff to proove, I was handed out that Horrific E22 letter and was asked to submitt a list of documents. They never call or verify with the parents of any parties concerned. They are only concerned with the petitioners and they verify on the papers you submitt. So dont be very nervous. Dont mumble and fumble.

if any questions please post
