There's generic "prescription" glasses at every Walmart and Walgreens. And at the mall, there's a place called EyeMart which has an ophthalmologist in the same building.

You can buy generic "prescription" reading glasses (+1, +1.5, etc.) at those places, but not prescription glasses for distance (-3.0, -3.5, etc.). They demand you have an examination and a new prescription before they will sell you anything on the minus side.

Svetlana knows what she wants (-3.5 contact lenses) but cannot get them without another exam for contacts (she had an exam for distance lenses last month). And since we have already used the one exam per year my insurance covers, additional exam/lenses would cost a lot of money.

She's just going to have a friend in Ukraine buy some (much cheaper there) and send them to her.

In ten years here, I paid full and in cash for a couple of exams, and it was in the $60 range each time.

Just walk in, get your eyes checked, get a prescription and walk into the store next door to get glasses. Or order contacts online.

not moving to miami, but I have had people tell me about it. From all of your comments, you people sound like some racist backward types. A friend of mine a USC told me that Florida had a lot of racists in it, you just proved his point. interesting

Please, please enlighten me on how any of this discussion is racist? The discussion of eyeglasses???? That's what you quoted.

I loved South Florida. I also love visiting in Latin America, also. I consider myself Latino inside, so Miami would be at the top of my list if I were rich. I also live in Southern California and speak Spanish, so that's why I love it here as well.

Erik Morillo also moved to Miami from New York and he loves it too! I was reading about this in MixMag UK. Erik Morillo is a millionaire record producer/DJ btw...

Gosh, I loved Miami when I was there. Granted it was just for a vacation at South Beach but I really loved how diverse the place is. Walking down the streets one hears all types of languages and I was soooo glad that it was not Arby's/Chillis'/Wendy's etc. etc. all over the place but rather some spectacular authentic food. Plus, there is the beach! Awesome

I enjoyed it and in my book, it beats the pants off uber-vanilla-conservative-religious south Georgia where I live, unfortunately.

I guess the grass is always greener on the otherside huh?

Just my 2 cents. :innocent:

I live in Florida now having moved from North Carolina and I much prefer it here. Before I get grief from people from North Carolina, no I did not say I disliked North Carlina, I spent a very happy two years there (in Charlotte) and loved the mountains and beaches (even though both were a few hours away) and Charlotte itself, but I do like the Tampa Bay more. I like Miami too for the same reasons as HappyNathy.

The Cuban food was excellent in Miami. Lots of night clubbing to great House music, and friendly people everywhere.

Does anyone here live in Miami. We live in kendall here in Miami and we hate it, unfortunately there's nothing we can do to leave right now but we are saving money. Anyway, it just seems like it's on dissappointment after another, we went to register my wife for ESL classes, specifically for Listening and Speaking, and today was her first day of class, she was so dissappointed, the teacher wasn't a native speaker, she spoke with an accent, which is what we don't want. I'm sorry I just needed a place to vent, hopefully I'll find someone here who lives in Miami, maybe you can help me out.

I have no idea what sort of language level your wife has but there is a great expression " beggars can t be choosers " in the sense I would take any sort of opportunity to learn the linguo:at the supermarket, hairdresser even with an english teacher who is a native portuguese speaker. Try to turn the table for a sec , assume you wife go through years of education and end up with a Master in English because of her sexy brazilian accent should she be refused employment as an English teacher in the US ?

What I am trying to say she should take this as an opportunity to learn to linguo and she will certainly have many more to get a proper southerner US accent by socialising with the people around.
