There are many people in the US who are not ready, probably the majority. That doesn't mean its the right course to deny the equality that legalizing gay marriage.

If it's a right, when was it first recognized and in which country?

Why has this suddenly become an issue? What changed so dramatically? I can't think of a single major incident.

I was aware the whole time, and I can't figure out how gay marriage got to be such an imperative either. If Californians are still resisting it, it's got a long way to go before most people and most states allow it.

That vote on Prop 8 really surprised me. I thought at least it would have been voted down in Los Angeles county. Only 2 counties in the entire state voted it down. I think it's a matter of human rights and everyone should be entitled to it. However, I do agree that as a country, the U.S. has a lot further to go towards acceptance before DOMA is struck down.

Prop 8 passed because the people behind it spent more money on advertising. There was a lot of guff about schools "teaching" gayness and how churches would be forced to marry gays on their premises.

Excuses, excuse! Gay advocates were surpised that it went down because they think they can pull the wool over everyone's eyes. Advertising can't overcome solid values.

Damn that was one funny joke.

You are, indeed

The way these exchanges usually go the usual response would be "I could say the same about you", but that would just be passe.

A rather lame attempt at baiting.

Baiting, when it comes to you, and a few others, is accomplished on autopilot. You're not exactly the brain-trust.

I think you need to take a few steps away from the keyboard and calm down.
